We may be rushing head long in to the hottest time of the year when most of us are thinking of about beach attire and vacations but we all know the seasons change and with it the fashion lineups. And the last thing anyone wants to do is think about winter clothes but with The Row opening it’s second ever store here in New York (the first is in LA) this month I wanted to get a peak at what’s in store for the new store. And leave it to the Olson twins to set fashion on it’s ear with a non conformist collection filled with free spirited garments that blend an artful edge with a utilitarian mind set. The looks in this lineup are not for the demure or the girlie girl, it is sans artifice and stands on it’s own with a stark independent beauty. And dare I say it? Do these clothes repel men? Is it true that women dress for other women? Or themselves? With the sporty chic trend in high gear I would venture to say that they just might.

We cover ourselves to both protect and conceal and with the only species to don ourselves in apparel in our most human way to reveal ourselves in the process

However this collection with it’s artful draping and austere yet comforting silhouettes of geometric shapes and cascading layers of woolen fabrics gives one the sense of the reverence of a gallery, or perhaps a quite snow swept landscape in a futuristic land free of the digital trappings that distract us on a daily basis. Where one is forced to notice the environment in which we move. And adapting as we move through this landscape like our ancestors before us. We cover ourselves to both protect and conceal and with the only species to don ourselves in apparel in our most human way to reveal ourselves in the process. And the Olson twins have revealed a unisex and uniquely functional collection of garments that free women from the confines of societal feminine artifice.

  1. I think the Olsen twins make beautiful clothing even though I could never wear it. I think they both are very talented. Have a fab weekend.

  2. How interesting and unconventional. Some of the pieces don’t even look like clothing. More like wearable art.

  3. This is an artful and interesting collection. The Olsen twins did well to stay in fashion instead of returning to acting.

  4. Wow! Those pieces are amazing! very unique, like a piece of art, designed for specific women who like innovation. Thanks for sharing, I loved it!
