Makeup Trends 2019 & 2020 FW VS Social Media

There will not be a live Fashion Week this season here in New York. Fashion Week will only be three days, digital only and no audiences. No live attendees. Very strange. Apparently it was the same for mens fashion week and couture and both were flops from what I understand. So, is this the new normal? Even after the pandemic? My guess is no. But at any rate today we will be looking at the makeup trends of 2019 and the changes for 2020 and the difference between FW and editorial makeup and the looks we see on social media. Hope you enjoy!

  1. I can’t believe August is almost over already. NYFW not taking place is going to be odd but given the very real dangers of the pandemic we’re still in, it’s the prudent way to go. I think it will eventually get back to an in-person event but even then it will be different and it all depends on when we get a viable vaccine. I have to say I haven’t been paying attention to makeup trends at all since I haven’t been wearing any makeup this whole time

  2. You’ve taken a fascinating look and done a wonderful review of the different makeup looks at fashion shows and on social media.
I enjoyed looking at it all and hearing your analysis immensely.

    1. So glad you enjoyed my look at the makeup trends the last few seasons. I am excited to see where the new trends go.

  3. Omgosh I didn’t even realize NYFW would be coming up so quickly. Interesting how it’ll be all digital this year. Definitely unprecedented times

  4. this is such a fun video to watch, love it! i think this is a great format to do a make up trend review good job! somehow loving that blue eyeshadow trend

    1. Wow thank you so much and so glad you enjoyed! I enjoyed making it though it is time consuming, there were a couple of times there I though my head was going to exploded LOL. I hope to do more.

  5. Yeah although it appears that they are going live in Italy. And I don’t like it, I believe it is not safe yet you know?
I am looking at the new make up trends but my main concern right now is how to avoid lipstick smudges after wearing the mask!

  7. Great vid, Allie:) So many beautiful and fun trends. I used to freelance as a makeup artist but haven’t been in touch with the makeup trends lately, so I loved watching this:) I honestly think you can’t go wrong with having Edie as a muse, so I am totally digging the blue eyeliner looks. And I totally understand why the neutrals will always have a place in fashion shows. Such a classic look:)

  8. I’m loving all those makeup trends! Those neon colours look fab, my favourite though is the natural look.

  9. The Instagram trend of the FULL FACE with ALL THE THINGS is so different from how I do my makeup most days (especially since we’ve been in quarantine, I don’t wear makeup most days).

I do love the bare/matte face with a bold lip for fall- feels fresh with a little punch!

  10. I’m more into more discrete makeups but it’s cool to see what’s going on in the makeup trends 😉
Oh! And I’m a fan of dark lipsticks: they look so cool!

  11. This will be very interesting. Digital Fashion Week, is that mean that everyone can watch it, or it will be only for magazine editors and influeers?

  13. Such an amazing work on your video. It was so interesting to see all theses difference between fashion weeks and social media.
I think I tend to appreciate better the looks in social media but both are beautiful !
It’s just so cool how in social media they fully go for it.
I love the golden trends and all the appliqués works are so beautiful !

  17. Hello
Allie I also think that this way fashion week gets a little, not to say a lot, sinister. I love using eyeliner and this one with such vibrant colors seems like a good way to face these weird pandemic times !!

  18. it is strange to think there will be no fashion weeks. I enjoyed your overview of make up looks. I enjoy dramatic make up looks for special occassions or artistic reasons like editorials and photography but personally I don’t enjoy wearing make up. I prefer minimalist make up looks or no make up.

  19. That is sad, NYFW without audiences?
And all digital? That would be both interesting and yes again,
    a bit sad.

  20. Love your analysis of the trends and how you mention that the looks are always focused. I never actually realised that until you mentions it. It usually one feature that is highlighted especially when the look is more dramatic.
I was reading some articles and it did also say that couture fashion week was a flop. I’m also guessing that it’s the new normal. I think there might be little shows and then grow back to the way it used to be. It might take a while for show to run as previously scheduled.
I love the colour of your hair!

    1. Yes editorial makeup is all about being focused. Yes right now it is the new normal. But not very successful. In time I imagine it will go back to the way it was but hopefully the industry will not be hit too hard

  21. Woah these trends are so cool! I love the bright colours 🙂 have a great weekend!

  24. So unfortunate that there will be no live shows this year but also understand why. Thanks for sharing these makeup trends!

  25. I remember you mentioned on my blog that NYFW wasn’t taken place in person. It’s disappointing, but the way this pandemic is going it’s better to be safe. I’ve never been to NYFW, but I enjoy looking at the photos from the events. These are great makeup trends!

  26. Let’s hope things get better and next year we can enjoy, meanwhile I’m adding a lot of glitter to my weekend makeup!
    have a nice day,

  27. Enjoyed the video so much! I’m so sad that they won’t be doing it in-person this year, but I can understand with COVID. It has just messed up so much this year.

  28. I’ve seen a couple of fashion shows virtually in the past (Chanel/LV/Gucci), and it is definitely different than the real-life experience. It is important to have the right people to set up the production and make it viewer-friendly, see all of the right angles, and so on. Hopefully we can go back to being in person soon!

  29. It will be such a shame if there are no more in person fashion shows – while I do like the pretty runway pics I find the street style more inspiring and you can get a lot of ideas of things to try from street style shots! I’ve been invited to a virtual event so I’m interested to see what it’s like!

Hope you are having a lovely weekend 🙂

  30. Omg, I loved looking at all these AW makeup trends!! Since we still have to wear masks, I’m always looking for new eye makeup ideas that pop 🙂
    xo Samantha

  31. It’s so sad that fashion week has to be digital this year! I’m going to miss attending events and looking at photos/videos from the shows. I didn’t realize the virtual shows have been a flop so far, but I can understand why! Hopefully, things go back to normal in the future once the pandemic ends. I’m excited to watch the video and hear your thoughts about trends! xx

  33. After watching this l feel inspired update my makeup. I usually just stick with neutrals, but I’m loving the bold lip trend, as well as the fun gold touches.

  34. This is so interesting Allie! I must say I am a big fan of the natural bare look, with dewy healthy skin, and a bold eye or lip – I feel that kind of look always fits everywhere, whether you’re at work or going out to dinner. I have enjoyed your video as always!

  35. I like new trends, especially holoto, bright shades of eye shadow. drawings. All this is so new and unusual

  36. I’ve been loving the “Euphoria”-inspired imaginative makeup looks I’ve been seeing on social lately. Also loving the decline of overdone foundation and contouring. I feel like influencers are moving more towards natural looks and experimenting with more light-hearted, fun makeup, which I love!

  37. I hope that digital Fashion Weeks will not be a permanent change, but just a temporary “normal”!
Love this video – I personally prefer a more natural ‘bare-faced’ look, but I can see the advantage of a more dramatic look for the catwalk and for photoshoots.

  38. It’s a shame that fashion week is not going ahead as normal, but I guess everyone needs to keep safe and at least it is still happening in some way..
I think I prefer the no-make-up look the best…I don’t know if I could wear a high colour look!
    Thanks for sharing!

  39. This is a great vid, Allie! You did a great job with the roundup. I am digging the blues and greens! I love color, so I’m excited to see bold hues going into the new season. 🙂
