Spring Coats and a Girl Who Can’t Make Up Her Mind, What Do You Look For in a Spring Coat?

Screen-Shot-2015-04-11-at-2.20.38-PM

Spring is finally here in NY and I am so ready to do a little spring shopping. I feel like after the major spring cleaning that I did a few weeks ago I should reward myself with a little spring shopping. I got a fairly nice tax return and even had a dream I went out shopping and spent $500…well I will not be doing that, but I will be purchasing a spring coat. As I have spoken about before on the blog I struggle with coats—it seems they never quite fit right, too big in the shoulders and chest, too short in the arms and if there is a belt it hits me on my rib cage instead of my waist. I have actually decided I am going to look for belt less coats from now on, and with the non body con trend that does make this quest a bit easier. Though I am still not quite sure what I want; I am kind of like Lucy (of I Love Lucy fame) when she is ordering a meal at a restaurant and then continually changes her mind after she hears what Ricky, Fred, and Ethel order. I decide I want a particular garment, buy it, and then see something I like better on someone else and then wish I had what they had instead. This happens a lot to me when it comes to coats and shoes. Yup, call me fickle. [row_fluid]

So you can imagine my dilemma when attempting to go coat shopping. Do I want a neutral colored coat, or one in a bright color? Do I want a longer coat or short one? Do I want a fitted coat or a boxy one? A dressy one or something more casual. I will then get paralyzed with indecision and then just buy what’s on sale because it is a good deal. I am going to try my best not to do this when I go out shopping this time. And I have done a bit of research online which of course I am going to share with you today.

I noticed this coat from Mango and liked that it appears to have a bit of a dropped waist. The belt looks like it falls lower down on the garment, so this could work for me. I also like the slightly messy-in-a-good-way feel to it. And this rain slicker from Top Shop is so cute! Oh boy I need a rain coat too. OK, I need to stay focused, back to spring coats. Denim is a huge trend right now and long denim coats were all over the runways for spring. I use to have a trench coat style denim coat a number of years ago—but of course it did not fit well and it became dated quickly so I do not have the best memories associated with denim coats but I may be willing to try it again. This one from Club Monoco in the dark wash and lose fit is certainly fashion forward. And some of the best luck I have had is with Zara so there are quite a few picks here

from this retailer. The two I am considering are the long camel colored one or the short bell sleeved pink one. I can not make up my mind and I am hoping how they fit will be the deciding factor. Now if I were wealthy I would just buy both, but nope I am going to have to make a decision. Or I may just go in a completely different direction.

  5. Great selection of classic, romantic and edgy coats!
I have same problem with coats, jackets and also blouses! They have weird cut and they don´t fit right. Usually they´re low cost clothes and I can´t afford expensive ones.

  6. Love that black jacket, so fab.

  7. Haha! This is my problem too! I want everything that I see on others and yet, I buy everything opposite of what I initially wanted. It’s terrible and my list of wants are endless. Right now my focus is to buy a denim jacket, I feel that it’s a really versatile piece and goes with almost everything.

Good luck with your shopping! xx

  9. Fabulous coats! I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them 🙂

  10. I have a thing for jackets and coats but I also struggle with them too. I have broad shoulders and most of them tend to accentuate it. I prefer finer fabrics myself, I find they drape better and for spring they’re spot on because of this. Well, over here spring is fairly mild so wearing a trench is more a fashion statement then necessity.

  11. Buy ALL the coats!! I love them all. I pretty much buy every coat I can get my hands on. In high school, my mom told me I wasn’t allowed to buy another coat because I had so many. That trench is amazing… and it is totally calling my name!

  12. Great selection of Spring coats. I loved camel and orange coat. Great post dear <3

  13. I completely understand you dilemma.
Unfortunately because of the climate over here I would be forced to go with one that could handle rain, as you never know when it will hit. If I could choose without having to think about the pesky rain I would so go for a colourful, light one.

  14. The nude trench coat and the coral one were my favourites.
    Have a nice day!

  16. There are times I don’t know what exactly I’m looking for either lol. When that happens, I just look around and pick the jacket that I look best in. But I am definitely loving all of these choices girl. Hard decisions lead to great rewards ;).

  17. Coats are definitely a tough purchase because you wear them so often, you have to feel GREAT in it! I do love all of the selections that you have here. That coral colored one is fantastic – very springy if you ask me 🙂

  18. They are all lovely. I would not be able to make up my mind either with all this goodness. I think for Spring I would go for the flower printed one. I don’t use many coats here in L.A., only in winter. If I had to have one, it would be that one. It would go with so many outfits, I can see them already. All white, all black, pastels, black and white mixed looks—so many posibilities! Have fun shopping :))

  20. I love Spring jackets and trenches! I find it great for spring night times when it gets chilly and during the day when its warmer, I can hold it in my arms as they’re not too heavy.

  21. For me spring coats with colour and texture are generally what I favour. That coral coat is just so beautiful! <3 Good luck with the decision. 🙂

  22. I adore, as in LOVE, the very first one. I am tmit about buying cream, ivory or white for a coat. The print is also super nice, but it not as useful.
So it is hands down, Numero Uno!
    Now about that dream….
sounds like you really need to shop!
