The 80’s have been having a moment for a few seasons now in the fashion industry, but Valentino’s whole hearted embracement of this over the top era has us longing for a by gone time. With all the advances in technology, the ever encroachment of the “connected” world of social media and the changing landscape of content creation, set against a backdrop of an angry hostile populace and a fractured government this should be no surprise.
yes an era with an attitude but also a sense of unlimited possibilities
In the 80’s nothing was too big or too decadent. Big hair, big shoulders and big attitudes. Super model Linda Evangelista famously said “we does’t get out of bed for less then $10,000 a day“. Yes an era with an attitude but also a sense of unlimited possibilities. With Valentino’s latest lineup this essence of playful abandon is evident.
Statement patterns of animal prints, stripes and polka-dots set the stage for glitz and glamour, while frilly mini-dresses and shameless self-promotion in a brand name textile design add a deviantly indulgent appeal.
So let’s embrace this sense of abandon if only for a moment
Sequins, lace and florals adorn full length skirts and dresses from full fits to slinky body con numbers. Pleats, ruffles and bows keep the collection decidedly feminine while the more graphical elements and boxy boots gives the collection it’s cool factor. And it’s never a bad thing to be cool. So let’s embrace this sense of abandon if only for a moment.

This collection does indeed capture an 80’s spirit but in a really cool way that isn’t OTT but very wearable.
Love Valentino but not this collection… 🙁
Oh wow! I am totally digging this collection, Allie:) My fave is that black, white and pink dress. I don’t remember the 80’s much but man…I sure do miss those simpler Reagan days. I can totally see why there is nostalgia going on in fashion.
Have a lovely weekend!

Sounds really interesting) Thanks a lot for sharing!
It’s such a bold collection. While I love the clothes (the beautiful lace maxi dress is stunning) it is of course the bags that got my attention the most! 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Hope you had a great weekend! We had a mix of busy time but also a little relaxing time too which was nice.
