Nothing is lovelier then spending a crisp fall day strolling in Brooklyn. The brownstones and tree lined streets with their changing colors and dappled sunlight so puts one in the mood to shop for Christmas. I did a bit of this and picked up few things for myself as well. I will be vlogging about this in the not too distant future.

Today I am sharing with you what I wore for this excursion. You have seen this top before in my NYFW vlog. When I wore it to NYFW I paired it with a pleated metallic skirt and suede mules for a very dressed up look. Here, I am dressing it down with distressed jeans and low heeled ankle boots. The necklaces which I layered together are from J Crew and COS. Both the top and the jeans are from H&M and the boots which you may have seen on my What I wore to Paris Fashion Week post are from Guess.

Don’t you love when clothes can do double duty? From chic fashion week events to running errands you can’t go wrong with a ruffle top.

A Dramatic Off The Shoulder Top From Shein and A DAY OUT IN SOHO

Summer in NY, yes it can be hot, and many times I would rather be at the shore, but the city can also be a magical place in the summer too. People spilling out of sidewalk cafes, the long days and golden sun sets—plus it tends to be a bit less crowded and the perfect time to shoot. This past weekend I met up with a photographer named Marina who I met through Instagram. I had been following her feed and discovered she lived three towns over from me. How cool is that? Definitely one of the upsides of social media. After following Marina for about a year on Instagram we met last winter during NYFW, we were attending the same show and she recognized me from my feed. But this weekend was the first time we met up to shoot.

We headed to Soho were I got my hair braided at Birch Box by the very talented Karina Sanchez. I love their hair and makeup services — you can get an updo or braids done for only $30, how cool is that! With these super dramatic over-sized ruffles I knew having my hair up was a no brainer. And speaking of the top, this top was gifted to me from Shein and I must say I think I knocked it of the park with my choice of this show stopping stunner. I had numerous people stop me in the street to ask me where I got it.

And with the fashion forward braids, Kardashian worthy top, my fringe heels, and Marina following me about with a telephoto lens I kind of felt like Kim Kardashian

And with the fashion forward braids, Kardashian worthy top, my fringe heels, and Marina following me about with a telephoto lens I kind of felt like Kim Kardashian. I paired this top with these high rise flares from H&M but it would look really good with a skirt too, and I just may do this for fashion week. The bag is from BCBG and the sandals are from Zara which I picked up last summer.  The necklace I picked up at Oh La La a few months ago. Remember the video? This gorgeous top retails for $17.85 if you can believe that. So if you want to stop traffic like I did be sure to head to Shein.com. And tell them Allie sent you!

Fall is one of my favorite seasons and dressing for this fleeting in-between season can be tricky but also fun. The mornings are cold, mid day can be warm, while the evenings are cool. So when dressing for fall weather it is all about layering. With this look I could have easily thrown on a long mid-weight relax fit coat. On this particular day it was warm enough to go out sans coat, but a cute tweed blazer kept me comfortable when the wind picked up.

I bought this blazer up at H&M a few years ago and I love it’s versatility and it’s classic cut. On this day I paired it with this long, navy, button down ruffle blouse from J Crew. Isn’t this a great color? And I love the alternative to black. The jeans are from Gap and are my first pair of jeans with a distressed edge. But not my last.

Yes it was a bit of an indulgence but look at it!

I decided to wear them with these mid calf boots from Brusque. I didn’t want to wear high boots as I still wanted to see the distressed edge and it was a bit cool for ankle boots. And I finally got a cross body bag! I love this bag from Michael Kors. I almost bought another bag, it was small and lacked the details this bag has, but it Michael Kors week at Macy’s and all Michael Kor bags were %30 off so I splurged and bought the more expensive bag. Yes it was a bit of an indulgence but look at it!

And then to keep the look from being too dark I added this statement necklace from Loren Hope. The pop of orange and the teardrop details are the perfect compliment to this more sporty look. And the ring from Gorjana is a lovely way to pick up the gold details in the bag. Right? Both of these items were in my latest Rocks Box set and I liked the ring so much I ended up purchasing it. The mirrored sunnies are from Aldo and I bought them in Paris after I lost my second pair of sun glasses with in a month of each other. Oh boy lets see how long I can hold on to these. Wish me luck.

A Cold Rainy Day in May and a Pair of Adidas Super Stars for Only $40

Fashion - [email protected] - May 16, 2016

Last weekend ended with another rainy day at the end of a very rainy week. I was not feeling inspired, and was actually feeling out right grumpy. I had been looking forward to a warm sunny spring day as the weather forecast had originally predicted, but nope it was gray, overcast and cold; as you can see here in this anything but spring like ensemble.

Yes that’s right I am wearing a winter coat, hat, sweater and jeans. The hat is from H&M and although I love the color it is not quite what I have been looking for, this is the second hat I bought that missed the mark. I am looking for hat that is more round like this one while the one I am wearing is more Indiana Jones. Oh well it didn’t break the bank. I paired it with this over-sized read too big sweater from the original Penguin line at Munsing Wear. My mom gave me this sweater as it did not fit her correctly. Luckily the non body con trend is still going strong so this sweater was spot on for a cranky no fuss kind of day. The jeans are from The Gap and were one of the first pair of higher rise jeans I have purchased in the last few months. I am purging my closet of all of my uber low rise jeans. How about you? Apparently everyone is doing it. I tried to fun things up with this cross body bag from GiGi New York, but the weather still left me grumpy. For the one bright spot in this look I tied on a pair Adidas Super Stars. Of course we all know about these super on trend kicks. And on that note for anyone looking for a pair of almost new Adidas give me a holler.

Almost new pair of Adidas Super Star‘s in size 6 for $40.00

Gap-high-rise-jeans

Almost all the reviews I read online said that these sneakers run big, but they DON’T. All sneakers run on the small side—these run true to size. I made the mistake of buying a half-size down and they were too small and they hurt my feet. There was no breaking these in. I ordered a new pair in my actual size and now they fit great and are super comfortable. And when I attended the NYC Style Collective Event, I spoke with Josephina of Josephina Collection and she had the same exact problem! I think it is because so many women are used to “vanity” sizing, but sneakers are uni-sex so none of that. So if you go a size down like you are use to doing, they will be too small.

I think it is because so many women are used to “vanity” sizing, but sneakers are uni-sex so none of that

But at any rate, I have a brand new pair of Adidas that have only been worn four times. I have the box they came in and the receipt from the store in Soho where they were purchased. I am selling them for $40. They are a boy’s 4.5 which is a woman’s 6. So anyone who is interested feel free to contact me. If you live in NY we can meet up and if you live out of state I will pay for shipping.

You would never know when we shot these photos it was May. This was a day for hot cocoa, cupcakes and a movie, which is exactly how my friend Laurie and I spent our day. We again headed to one of my favorite towns Huntington where one of my favorite blogger’s Shy Biker lives. We went to the Cinema Arts Center and saw Sing Street. An Irish movie that takes place in 1980’s Dublin and is about a young “lad” who has to leave his more posh private school and attend the rough and tumble Christian Brother’s public school and his dreams of being a rock star. It is not an in depth expose of the era and life in Ireland in the eighties. But rather a funny, warm and fuzzy feel good flick. If you have a thing for the eighties and eighties music or remember the eighties (I am looking at you Shy Biker) this movie is a lot of fun. Well I hope my next outfit post will be inspired by sunny days and summer weather. Stay tuned…

Balmain Spring/Summer 2016 Pre-Collection for Lookbook Friday

Fashion - [email protected] - January 1, 2016

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to a brilliant and productive 2016. For the first Lookbook Friday of the year I am featuring Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2016 Pre-Collection. The pre-collection is a more toned down, streamlined collection then either the fall or the Spring 2016 lineup.

Although rest assured, the collection is just as opulent and luxurious as Olivier Rousteing’s fall and spring collections, but it is decidedly a more distilled collection.

The palette is limited to predominately black and white with the occasional appearance of dusty pastels and a lovely floral print in red, white and gray. Texture and construction take center stage with exquisite tone on tone embroidered fabrics, intricate lace, sheer panels layered over patterned textiles and iridescent appliqué. Peplums are seen through the collection in tops and are even built into dresses. Structured overcoats with a retro mod aesthetic feature over-sized brass buttons as a minimalist detail letting the cut of the coat be the main attraction. And this seems to be at the heart of the collection—this sense of craftsmanship and beauty a quite luxury which hints at things to come. And serves as an elegant and timely frontrunner to the more lavish official spring 2016 collection.

Zara Lace-up Shoes and a Lovely Night Out in Soho

Fashion - [email protected] - October 14, 2015

Last week I wrote about the black suede lace up shoes I picked up at Zara in this post, and here I am sporting these gorgeous kicks. As I said in last weeks post these shoes are super comfortable and easy to walk around in for a relatively long time. I wore them to NYFW to a number of shows, and here I wore them to go out to dinner with a couple of fellow bloggers

I wore them to NYFW to a number of shows, and here I wore them to go out to dinner with a couple of fellow bloggers; Alex of Letters From The City and Renta of Purse Fixation. You can dress them up and were them with a skirt or dress or some trousers, or you could pair them with jeans and a tee. Here I wore them with a top I picked up on sale at COS, H&M’s higher end sister store and the yellow bag I picked up at Steve Madden last summer. A perfect look for a casual evening out in Soho, don’t you think? Next time I may try them with a tee instead, then I’ll throw on a blazer and a cute brimmed hat and viola, I will have another effortless casually chic look. Right?

A Zara Bag, a Pair of Aldo Booties and a Lovely Day at the Shore

Fashion - [email protected] - June 8, 2015

[dropcap custom_class="normal"]L[/dropcap] ast week I wrote about this lovely pink suede bag that I picked up at the Zara store in Soho. Well here it is in action, I love this bag for spring and summer. I can pair it with a pair of jeans and a cropped pleather jacket like I did here, or I could pair it with a dress and heels. This bag looks super luxe but is super affordable at $120. On this day my friend and I headed to a town

This bag looks super luxe but is super affordable at $119. On this day my friend and I headed to a town on Long Island called Sayville, it is one of the towns where you can catch the ferry to Fire Island. It is a quaint town with lots of fun shops. In fact my sister works at one of them, it is called Therapy, and it is aptly named. Who doesn’t need a dose of retail therapy! And be sure to stay tuned for a post on this lovely store. After strolling through town, we stopped for lunch at a Tapas place a couple of towns over called Bayshore, and then we headed to Gardiner Sate Park where these photos were taken. It was a cool spring day so along with this cropped jacket and long top both of which I purchased a few years ago at H&M, I wore these low heeled ankle booties. I bought them online at Aldo and they were conveniently on sale and were 50% off. I could not be happier with my purchase, I had been looking for a pair of boots like this and these totally fit the bill at a great price. So it should be no surprise that they have sold out. But check their sale page here, seems all their boots are on sale. That’s the great thing about buying things off season—sales! In fact, I first tried looking for a pair of boots like this in the stores but they were no where to be found, it was all sandals and summer shoes. So I hopped online and my perseverance paid off. Have you ever found something online that was sold out in the stores? Do you prefer shopping online or in the stores? I use to only like shopping in the stores. But online shopping has grown on me. But either way shopping makes me a happy gal!

French Connection, a Non Body Con Look and a Night Out in Soho

Fashion - [email protected] - April 20, 2015

[dropcap custom_class="normal"]S[/dropcap]pring has arrived in a big way this weekend, in fact it felt more like summer. With temperatures above normal after two months of temperatures being below normal it was a bit of shock, but in a good way. Friday started out cold and rainy and ended warm and sunny with temperatures in the low seventies, it was a perfect evening to step out for dinner and drinks with some fellow bloggers.

Friday started out cold and rainy and ended warm and sunny with temperatures in the low seventies, it was a perfect evening to step out for dinner and drinks with some fellow bloggers. So along with bloggers Lynn from Accidental Icon, Renata from Purse Fixation and Anita from Look For The Woman we headed to a nice little french cafe for some vino, tasty appetizers and lively inspiring conversation. For this evening out I chose to wear a pair of boxy trousers and a quilted pull over both from French Connection. The “flood” cut of the trousers allows the shoes you are wearing to take center stage, in this case I am wearing a pair of booties I picked up at H&M a few years ago but as the weather gets warmer I could wear these trousers with high heeled sandals, open toed booties or pumps. In cooler weather I could wear them with long socks and higher cut boots. Quite versatile I must say, and they currently have a pin striped pair on sale check them out here. And this top is so fun with it’s quilted textile and great fit it is perfect to wear with some statement jewelry and for this look I layered two necklaces together. I may have even been able to get away with a third necklace, right? The chain necklace I picked up at the Brooklyn Flea last summer and the gun metal gray necklace I bought online at a site called Gomatta Girls, which sad to say it no longer around. My regular readers know I am a fan of the boxy non body con trend so this look was super fun for me to wear. I love the unfussy quite chicness of a look like this, don’t you?

The Pleated Skirt Trend—Chic, Flattering and Just a Little sexy!

Fashion - [email protected] - June 30, 2014

[dropcap custom_class="normal"]W [/dropcap] ho wouldn’t want to channel their inner Audrey Hepburn, and a great way to do this is the pleated midi or tea length skirt. I am so in love with the midi skirt trend and the trend towards fuller skirts, but add some pleats and presto, instant retro chic! This skirt is from the Etsy shop 1000Love. I adore the layered detailing and feminine feel of this garment. You must check out this shop, seriously the clothes almost seem too sophisticated to be on Etsy. This skirt retails for $65.00, ok wow this is a steal.

Pleated skirts can also be long like this one. This blogger did a wonderful job of styling this maxi. The contrast of the soft fabric in pastel blue with the the harder edgier black leather is a stand out look for sure.

Pleated-Skirt-asos

And white pleats oh my! How cool is this skirt from ASOS and pairing it with a graphical shirt like this one is just genius. I just may have to buy this whole look! And this long midi skirt also from ASOS will look flattering on most people. If you are on the shorter side wearing this skirt with high heels like the model will certainly help you to  look taller.

Ok, as regular readers of my blog will know, I love when you can combine two trends in one and Zara really hit the nail on the head with their pleated floral skirt. It is currently on sale for $39.99. Almost half off!

Pleated-Skirt-H&M

And what about three trends in one? Stripes, pleats, and a black and white palette, seriously this is beyond cool. This black and white pleated skirt by H&M skirt is an affordable option at $29.95, plus it shows off a little skin. So sexy!

Jordan Taylor Cover Ups For a Winter Look

Fashion - [email protected] - January 27, 2014

Hope everyone is coping with the polar vortex the best they can. Dreaming of summer? Me too. Well summer may be a good six months away but I decided to get a bit of a head start. So when Jordan Taylor sent me this lovely knit cover up I just could’t wait another six months to wear it. I got a bit impatient and decided to work it into a winter look. Something about it made me think of the 70’s. Just picture this baby in the summer with a black or white two piece, swaths of gold jewelry, and a glistening spray tan, gorgeous right? So with this 70’s vibe in mind, for the winter look, I paired it with this tweed colored turtle neck I got years ago at Old Navy. Then this faux fur scarf, a straw “summer” hat from H&M, black leggings (a Christmas gift from my sister) and these booties from Donald Pliner. I then added this black fringe bag from Free People which I picked up a few weeks ago (I hear fringe is making a comeback). So, what do you think? Does it look like I am wearing a cover up? Would you wear a summer item in the winter if you could work it into a look? If not, and you are more traditional and like to wear your summer items in summer, and are in need of a sexy, fashion forward cover up  head on over to Jordan Taylor. Their coverups are young, fresh, and fashion forward with no terry cloth in sight!
