The key to the look is bright pop of color on the lips accented with shine to highlight the fresh and vibrant feel of the clothes—Janell Geason

Fashion Week was a blur of running from show to show and heading back stage at the Chiara Boni SS 2016 show was certainly a highlight of the week. I happily ran in to fellow blogger Sam, of Style of Sam who was decked out in a Chiara Boni original and looked gorgeous, and we were both besides ourselves with the breathtaking clothes surrounding us.

Known for creating a world of elegance and timeless sophistication Chiara Boni’s collection for Spring-Summer 2016 is a brilliant celebration of color, femininity and a bold, yet graceful sexuality. With it’s saturated hot pinks and vivid corals the lineup for Spring 2016 has a vaguely rock-n-roll edge wrapped up in an uber, gorgeous girlie aesthetic. Chiara Boni creates her clothes with her specialized eco-friendly stretch fabrics which she created herself and which render color in an unprecedented way.

With all this vibrant can’t be missed color hair and makeup can be a challenge, and could easily veer it to an over-the-top overdone extravaganza. But the team at Aveda made sure to keep this catastrophe at bay and balanced out the vibrance of the collection with a complimentary yet understated approach of textured wavy hair, glowing skin, pale eyes, a strong brow and a pop of color on the lip and set the stage for a stunning experience.

Makeup artist Janell Geason explained that she wanted to create a look that would compliment but not compete with the clothes, while reflecting the youth and vitality of spring blooms. This was  reflected in glistening dewy skin, with pale luminescent eyes which were created by using an eye shadow one shade lighter then the skin, and then keeping the rest of the face to a minimum by focusing the color on the lip and nails.

The key to the look is bright pop of color on the lips accented with shine to highlight the fresh and vibrant feel of the clothes“, says Janell.  She created the luminous, fresh complexion with Inner Light™ Mineral Tinted Moisture and Inner Light™ Concealer  which gives the face a glistening fresh look and followed this up by setting it all with a dusting of  Inner Light™ Mineral Loose Powder. She then lightly applied  Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Opal to the top lash line, and then curled the lashes and applied a few coats  Mosscara™ Black Forest mascara. For the bold brows Janell filled them in with Petal Essence™ Eye Color Trio in Gobi Sands with a stiff brow brush and to accentuate the cheeks she applied Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Apricot Whisper along the cheekbones with a fluffy blush brush, and then added a touch of Petal Essence™ Face Accents Rose Blossom to the apples of the cheeks for the glowing look she was after.  She then lined the lips with Nourish-mint™ Lip Liner in Purple Sage and blended the edges inwards and then with a lip brush filled in the lips with Nourish-mint™ Smoothing Lip Color in Wild Fuchsia. Finally she added a touch of Nourish-mint™ Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Sun Kissed Melon to the center of the lips to finish off the sexy, glimmering look that so perfectly captured the essence of shimmering vitality.

And for hair, Aveda guest artist Jon Reyman wanted to imply the look of rose petals as Chiara’s La Petite Robe collection was inspired by blooming garden flowers. To create this effect Jon created pretty layers of textured hair, which he accented with sleek finger waves that framed the face and was at once modern and was also a throwback to the boyish femininity of the 1920’s
The slick waves emulated the look of rose petals, and organically transitioned into free-flowing hair that was a little wild and natural, like a blooming flower“, says Jon. To recreate this look, follow the tutorial below.

Step 1: Prep hair with a liberal misting of Aveda Thickening Tonic and blow dry hair for texture.
Step 2: With hair parted down the center, apply a generous amount of Aveda Brilliant™ Retexturizing Gel to the top half of head to create the wet appearance.
Step 3: On the right side, begin forming a traditional finger wave from the top of the part going down to the back of the ear. Set each waved section with a clip. Repeat on the left side.
Step 4: Once done, place a stocking cap on clipped waves to further set style.
Step 5: With the top drying, begin wrap hair that is hanging loose around a .” barrel curling rod

PRO TIP from Jon: Place a playing card under each clip to avoid ridging on the hair.

Step 6: Use a wide-tooth comb to pull out the freshly set curls for a flowing loose wave.
Step 7: Apply new Aveda Shampure™ Dry Shampoo (Available November 1, 2015) on the back for added texture and remove the cap and clips. Let the finger waves hang naturally.
