Some people make generalized resolutions at the new year, I make shopping resolutions at the new year. And this year I made three resolutions. The first is: no more black. I have a ton of black clothes, perhaps it is because I live in New York but it is a go to habit that I want to break. So I am on a mission to not buy any black for the next year; no black clothes, coats or shoes. Think I can pull it off? Not sure if I will go an entire year without buying one black item, but wish me luck.
And the second resolution is: no heels over two inches high. Last week I wrote about a pair of boots I picked up at Zara with a 1.5 inch heel. I wore them to work yesterday and walked all over the city with comfort and ease. It is nice to be able to wear a heel and still be able to walk for an extended period of time. With higher heels I have wear sneakers to work and then carry the heels in bag and put them on at the office. And I find this is the only time I wear higher heels—when I am at the office. This is so limiting and I would like to have more shoes I can wear out and about with friends and that I can commute to work in, without having to do a swap at the office.
And my final resolution is to acquire more jewelry. I don’t have very many pieces and so I wear the same pieces over and over. And with these two jewelry designers I featured on the blog, I will be off to a good start. Then I will have to get in the habit of actually wearing it. I have a bad habit of running out the door in the morning sans jewelry, and I hope to break this habit as well. This will take a little work, but knowing what the problem is half the battle right?
Do you have any shopping/fashion resolutions for 2017?

I also wear all black all the time. It started back in high school and while I go through phases where I tell myself I’m not going to wear all black anymore and I’m not going to buy anymore black pieces, I end up breaking down pretty quickly lol. Hopefully you’re better at it then me 😉 Not buying unreasonably high heels is a good one! I think I’ve unconsciously come to that conclusion myself. Even though I admire a good pair of heels, I know I won’t be able to wear them for more than 20 minutes at a time. Good luck with all your shopping resolutions 😀

I would love to collect more jewelry this year too! I also usually wear heels to work and they’re definitely easiest to walk in when they’re less than 2-3 inches!

I love how sensible your resolutions are, Allie! And yes, I need to stop buying black and add more colours and patterns to my wardrobe too, like you I desperately need to break out of my comfort zone.
First, you look great in black, but I do agree adding colors is fun. I think you know where I stand on jewelry. 🙂
I agree about shoes, unless there is a platform, which i do look for and then no more than a two inch arch. But I am short and meds heels more than you.
Good resolutions. I am sure you will do them all!

Oo, I don’t think I could stop buying black 🙂
Great resolutions for 2017!
I can totally relate to investing more in accessories — i feel like it’s a great way to revamp an existing outfit! 🙂 xo~ Lena

Firstly, I also wear black all the time… but I have to say that’s not gonna be in my new years resolution haha. I love my black wardrobe. But I totally agree with you on the heels! I have so many high heels that I find so uncomfy when I wear to walk that i end up being so miserable when I wear them – gonna make the change to more comfy shoes

Loving these fashion resolutions! I find that block heels are super comfortable too even if they’re a little above 2in. And wow no black? That is impressive!!

These are smart resolutions, although they may get you kicked out of the Chic Chicas of the City club. 🙂
I know it’s so not typical New Yorker but I actually have way more color in my closet than black and I’ve been trying to acquire more black pieces – classic ones. I’m also sticking by quality over quantity when it comes to shopping as well.
I mostly buy black, also. So, if I could manage to buy only colorful clothes or shoes, I would be happy. Good luck with your resolutions, xx

I made a resolution a few years ago to stop buying so many grey sweaters. I broke that a bunch of times haha. For me it was helpful to push myself to look at other colors first, rather than imposing a no grey rule. I know grey looks good on me, but maybe something else might be fun too? That’s what I tell myself. Good luck with your style resolutions!

I really liked your resolutions, and although I have listened to people saying “oh my word, this is already February!” I say, hey, this is just the beginning of the year! So, I am sure you will buy more jewels, and that you will find very beautiful low heels. Besides, low heels are healthy to feet. I used to wear ONLY high heels till 2013 – then I saw how I struggled after some hours walking up and down in London, while a friend had flats in her bag and always looked so comfy and energetic. I started doing the same. It was not easy in the beginning, but now I love flats. No more black – I don’t know, but I am sure you will look great with other colors as well! Hope you have a greatday, enjoy it a lot!

Great style resolutions dear! Short heels are so hot right now that who needs stilettos? 😉 And I love to have some more jewellery as well!
Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

Not buying black is always a yearly goal for me. I have been doing good but have found I have been ogling a lot of grey instead! Vintage jewelry has always been a weakness for me if I can find it at the thrift it comes home with me I just need to get in the habit of making a point of wearing it:)
Fashion resolutions are such a great idea! Hmm, I might have to come up with my own list myself. The “no black” is going to be tough, but I wish you luck! It might be fun to have some color in your closet. And you can always pair those new pieces with the black pieces you already have.
