Menswear as womenswear is certainly nothing new, but with Monse the collaboration of former Oscar de la Renta creative directors Fernando Garcia and Linda Kim the woman’s menswear aesthete has been turned or should I say twisted on it’s head. As we have seen the layered and twisted menswear shirt has been quite the hot commodity as of late. From bloggers, to street style, to celebs this look is hot hot hot. So it seems Monse is on to something here. Using a mens trench coat as a base for inspiration the Resort 2017 collection takes this homage to the deconstructed tailored garment to the next level.
Monse in one full swoop both liberates and conforms the modern silhouette
This line up is all about the asymmetrical wrap. And it is this off kilter and unexpected use of traditional tailored fabrics and the non traditional silhouette that breaths life in to this refreshing collection. With off the shoulder high -low trench dresses, the tailored mens shirt dress and the handkerchief frocks, Monse in one full swoop both liberates and conforms the modern silhouette. Reigned in with over-sized masculine belts cinched at the waist, which can also be seen in a vaguely bondage inspired pencil skirt we see a ying yang balance of this new found femininity.
Add to that uber long asymmetrical button down tops, safari inspired pants suits and head to toe strapless handkerchief evening dresses and lace up cargo pants and you have a frenetic yet cohesive offering of wearable and out of the box pieces. And with a neutral palette balanced by edgy graphic prints, preppy stripes, and conventional patterns of houndstooth and polkadots, there is not dull moment to be had. And I am excited to see what comes next for this dynamic duo and what the future holds for this exciting new fashion house.

This is such a fresh take on menswear as womenswear. The unconventional silhouettes are really cool and the presentation does a great job of highlighting them.
I really like the off kilter shapes and silhouettes, it’s so refreshing to see something genuinely different. Have a great weekend Allie!

I adore these asymmetric looks, they feel like a fun breath of fresh air!
I love the energy this collection comes with. The fun twist on the classic pieces is a great idea and some pieces are really wearable. Also love the play with prints and the silhouette, a fun change indeed! Xx
