Who doesn’t dream of being a wildly wealthy decadent fashionista living in a tower in the sky with marbled staircases and art deco balconies, like those movies from the thirties with their petulant femme fatale heroines dripping in gorgeous slinky clothes and over the top furs. Well OK it is 2016 and I don’t do real fur but a girl can still have a fantasy, right? Alexander McQueen never made clothes for running out to pick up groceries. And Sarah Burton while continuing this homage of fashion as art, has also softened the approach to create clothes that are a bit more approachable.

Alexander McQueen never made clothes for running out to pick up groceries.

Minimalism means nothing to the Alexander McQueen girl, for her life is all about the finer things in life and relishing in the beauty of the clothes themselves. From stunningly intricate embroidered pieces to frothy gold gossamer dresses and forties era frocks with sexy black bodices and playful peplums to more dare I say simple relax fit suits this line up is wonderfully wearable. But the center of the collection are the exquisite gowns—breath taking examples of the artistry and vision that goes in to the making of garment. A garment that is not just to clothe oneself, but serves to remind us that yes, there is beauty in the world—even if costs an arm and leg.

  1. To me fashion is art, or an artform. McQueen is a master, intricate patterns are just beautiful. As much as I’m a lover of simplicity, I appreciate the artistic detail in designs so much.

  3. Every one of these looks is a showstopper in itself! Alexander McQueen’s collections have always transcended fashion to resemble art and Sarah Burton is carrying on that tradition in such fine style.
