L ast weekend a friend and I took a road trip out to the east end of Long Island and headed towards the North Fork. We decided to stop at a park/camp ground called Wild Wood State Park. For my New York based readers this is a fun one day trip and a nice break from the hot and hectic pace of NYC in the summertime. It is about an hour and half drive, and well worth it. They also have camping facilities—but they do not have cabins, it is strictly trailers or tents. They have places to barbecue and picnic and there are trails through the woods as well, and one trail leads to a bluff over-looking a beach and the Long Island Sound. The beach is rocky as is most north shore beaches, but the west coast feel to the rugged terrain more then makes up for that. The water is crystal blue, cool and refreshing. I had a wonderful time spending a day at this park, and it helped a bit with my bi-coastal disorder (loving both coasts but only being able to live on one).
They also have a food court which is apparently closed on the weekends. Which I must say does not make a tremendous amount of sense. Budget cuts perhaps?
It was a hot day so I chose to wear this sleeveless relaxed fit dress I picked up at Joe Fresh for $10.00! They were having a huge sale and I scored two dresses and a hat for $26.00. This quite the print isn’t it? If you stare at it long enough the pattern looks like it is moving. Really try it. Ok maybe not, but there is a bit of fun house mirror feel to it for sure.
On the way down to the hike to arrive at this wonder view my friend and I took fairly up-close photos of a young osprey. He let us get remarkably close—we stealthily inched closer and avoided eye contact as to not spook him and then simultaneously lifted our cameras and snapped a way like the city slicker dweebs that we are. And I was an even bigger dweeb and somehow managed to delete the photos I took of him, grrr I am kicking myself over this.
This certainly looks inviting, no? Our trip was a bit spur of the moment and I had not expected to be at the beach or I certainly would have worn my suit under my dress for a quick dip! Well there is always next time. Hope you enjoyed this digital road trip and stay tuned for the next one.

OMG Allie, these photos are so dreamy, the hubs and i need to hit up that place immediately! Too bad we don’t have a car, which always complicates things when it comes to day trips. I love you can always find the best bargains at Joe Fresh too.

i love, love these photos, so very summery. i never feel like the beaches around here have that summer look to them – i guess it just never gets warm enough. but i love seeing beaches packed with umbrellas and chairs and beach balls. and this beach looks so pretty winding along the waters edge and the greenery on the hills. looks perfect!

It is so pretty there Allie! That’s crazy not to have the food court open on the weekend. That’s when they would make the most money. Love your dress and that bag. The price you purchased it for was absolutely amazing. You looked great.
