Academy of Art University Graduates @NYFW SS2020

On the third day of Fashion Week I attended two shows: Kyle Shehida and the Academy of Art University graduates for SS2020. I had to rush to make this show as the Kyle Shahida show was about forty minutes late and there was only an hour between shows. I had to make a mad dash, I quickly bolted from the first show to be one of the first people out the door and on to the street to catch an Uber. And luckily for me, my strategy paid off. I quickly got an Uber and got to the Academy show in time which was of course also starting late.

Eleven student designers were featured this season: Mariana Gorey, Quig Guo, Chelsea Grays, Ying Jin, Hanbit Ku, Yi Pan, Abby Yang, Yaryna Zhuk, Christopher Cabalona, Yue Shen and Mingyang Zhang.

I was very impressed with the graduates this season. The was not an abundance of color and there was a strong emphasis on structure and form. Minimalism reigned with little adornment and silhouettes were either unstructured or highly structured putting less emphasis on the body and more emphasis on the garments themselves.
