With an obvious love for the sumptuousness of textiles and tactile beauty of the fabric itself, Stella McCartney’s 2016 resort collection is a wonderful homage to the art of design and garment construction
One can see and embrace the sheer joy of textiles in Stella McCarney’s resort collection for 2016. With a vaguely nostalgic stance the garments in this line up combine the minimalist relaxed fit approach of simple streamlined cuts with generous draping and unexpected “embellishments” of sudden swaths of cloth. Balancing this more austere aesthetic are retro aline dresses, swingy tea length frocks, flowing maxis and eyelet laden ankle grazing prairie skirts. Fitted yet romantic suits in embroidered florals lend an air of restrained decadence while playful knits in unusual and surprisingly sophisticated patterns give the collection a youthful edge.
Florals show up as embroidered details and are reminiscent of the beautiful old illustrations found on seed packs, while a more modern pop art take on the floral motif can be seen in a daisy pattern that is cut in to a color block dress and is also seen on a top, both of which are seemingly held together by a swatch of vividly colored “tape”. Over-sized blooms make an appearance on a flowing sleeveless color block frock while a much more liner flower design shows up on a simple sheath mini dress. And galloping across the collection is a striking grecian stallion print which is found in an assortment of colors, textures and garments. From a sheer black maxi, to a coral tone on tone pants suit set, and trench, to a black and white jumpsuit. With an obvious love for the sumptuousness of textiles and tactile beauty of fabric itself, Stella McCartney’s 2016 resort collection is a wonderful homage to the art of design and garment construction. And it also offers us, the thrill of wearing a piece that is at once beautiful, masterfully constructed and smashingly fashion forward.

I’ve always been a fan of Stella McCartney’s feminine cool aesthetic. I totally love the embellishments and details she employed with this collection. That last dress is gorgeous!
For some reason I’ve always been under the impression that her designs leaned more towards boring, meaning I was never attracted to any of them but this collection is no doubt one of the best I’ve seen from her. I actually like everything that I see here!
ps: Is there a possibility you post a face of the day (FOTD) look with your Cynthia Rowley palette? I’m really interested to see what you come up with. xx
