Blogging, Photography and Bonding…

Today I went shooting and for the first time I was behind the lens shooting a living breathing person. I have stated on the blog before that one of my goals was to learn more about photography and to start shooting people. I met up with Andrea of PrettyProperQuaint and we headed to Soho to shoot each other. Andrea is also an aspiring photographer and it was wonderful working with her. I struggled a bit with her camera she has the Canon 5Ti while I have the 3Ti, and I was surprised at how different it was from the one I use. Finally we swapped her 50 mm lens on to my camera so I could shoot more comfortably. This was the first time I shot with a 50 mm or fixed lens and wow what a difference. Seriously if you are remotely interested in photography or taking your blog to the next level then you should definitely invest in a prime or fixed focal length lens. You can read more about shooting with a fixed focal length lens in this post.

Blogging may or may not make you rich, but it can and will enrich your life

I met Andrea through the NYC Style collective and I had such a good time shooting her. This is what I love most about blogging—all the wonderful people you get to meet—people whose paths would never cross if were not for the fact that they actively participate in the world of blogging. It is great to meet other women who not only share my love of fashion, but also my love of photography and creating beautiful imagery. Yes I am a graphic designer, and yes I do something creative for a living, but Andrea works in finance, yet she still has a natural wonderful eye for light and composition and knows how to use her camera. So for those of you that may feel you don’t have what it takes, don’t be afraid to try. Go on and get that DSLR, and spring for the 50 mm lens, then network with other bloggers in your area. Blogging may or may not make you rich, but it can and will enrich your life. So girls let’s do this! And stay tuned for a glimpse at my first shoot as photographer, and as they say this is just the beginning…

  1. I went hunting for a new Canon yesterday and was so confused by everything. Gosh, it’s been years and it’s definitely not like riding a bike. Even the lenses didn’t make sense but I’m sure he mentioned the 5mm lens. I’ll remember to look into this one more now. And yes the blogging community is amazing online but meeting them in person is even more enriching. I was fortunate enough to meet three amazing ladies when I was in LA and Vegas. It was incredible to not only see them in person but to converse was just something else. I’d love to travel and meet more amazing bloggers! Like yourself! ;o)

  7. Sounds like you had a really fun time shooting with Andrea! Looking forward to seeing your photos! As much as I love my telephoto lenses, I definitely get way more use out of my prime lenses and lately my 40mm hasn’t left my camera at all.

  8. I wish I could afford a DSLR and a professional lens but I don’t think I’ll ever managed to invest in one. I do agree that blogging is such an amazing platform to meet people, I too have met wonderful friends through blogging.

  9. I used to do photography competitions in grade school, and I’m sad I gave it up. Photography is something I want to start doing again, and I love reading about what you’re learning 🙂

  13. It is certainly something I should learn. I would enjoy it, but I love having my camera phone, it lets me take shots anywhere and I like to edit them with snapseed by Google, but yo are right, a good camera makes all of the difference. I am so glad you had fun, one day, one day, we will meet up, too. xx, Elle
