SAKS POTTS FALL 18 FOR LOOKBOOK FRIDAY

I’am sure many of you have heard the buzz about Saks Potts. An unusual name for an eclectic fashion house that is having a moment thanks to Kendall Jenner. I can see why she loves the brand. The retro vibe, standout saturated pastels and an unabashed sense of decadence is irresistible. Who doesn’t want to be Holly Golightly for a day. Strolling through the streets dressed to the nines, having breakfast at Tiffany’s with a dashing lover. A throwback to another era with all of it’s grace and romance.

And let’s all take a moment to pay homage to a time when things were slower and people took the time to really look. And the creation of art and beauty was respected and revered. No liking, clicking or scrolling. Just time to really look and the time to really read. I feel at times a nostalgia for true talent, and not being bombarded by the latest Instagram star of the moment. And lucky for me I got to experience this for the briefest of moments.

when I suddenly saw a few paces in front of me the form of Grace Coddington

The other day I was walking down the street in mid-town Manhattan returning from a meeting with a fellow photographer when I suddenly saw a few paces in front of me the form of Grace Coddington! I could not believe my eyes. The moment happened very quickly. We made eye contact and by the time I knew it was her for sure she passed. I missed my opportunity to tell her how great she is. Sigh. So lets all take a moment to remember that there was a time before “social” media when art in fashion was truly known.

  1. Hey Allie, hope you’re having a fantastic beginning of 2019! I was off for a little bit but now I’m back to blogging and it is always a pleasure to look at your editorials and street style shootings.

First of all these photos are truly magical, the mixture of textures and patterns are magical and I’d bet these outfits would feel like a dream for every woman, they remind me a little bit of Del Pozo latest proposals.

And yes, I totally feel you when you say we’re consuming, consuming, consuming but really don’t take a moment to admire and appreciate all the work that is behind a piece of art (call it photography, painting, illustration, video, etc.). That’s why lately I’ve been unfollowing a lot of people on my social media, fewer but better things 🙂

All the best and good luck in the upcoming fashion month!

  2. How fabulous that you had a moment with Grace Coddington. She is truly one the visionaries in the fashion industry. I used to see the late Bill Cunningham every so often and was mesmerized just watching him do his thing. It’s really sad how we’re at a point where we don’t stop to appreciate things anymore. I’ve stepped back from social media because I don’t want to be one of those people.

  3. Grade is amazing, so cool you go to see her on the streets of NYC.
I do feel what you’re saying. Social media seems to be more about showing the latest (and often the most expensive) thing than about appreciating real talent, but well that’s the time we live in. Sometimes it seems to me that people don’t even take the time think anymore.

I do like the look of Saks Potts.Great designs, love the colours.

  4. Wow wow and wow to the coat fashion and colors so beautiful.

  5. I haven’t heard of the brand before but I’m loving the classic designs and the fun modern twist with the colour combos! It’s so cool you passed Grace Coddington! I rarely see anyone exciting in the streets of Brisbane, haha!

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend 🙂 We have a kids birthday party today which will be fun. Noisy, but fun, haha!

  6. I love this post. Everything you said is too true. However, I do like Saks Potts. Thanks for sharing these!

  7. I really do love the pastels and the mixing of patterns. This, to me, is bold! I am just not creative or brave enough to wear these combinations but I absolutely love seeing them on other people. Everything is so quick on social media, especially Instagram. It’s nice to take things slow especially when there is so much creativity out there. I honestly don’t know how to continue our conversations that we have in the comments sections, so I am going to start clicking on the notification box by the comment square lol.
    Enjoy your week! ♥

Wow, it is unbelievable you met hear and you had even eye-contact! I see NYC is simply a village 😉 And corresponding Saks Potts I have to admit that so far this brand wasn’t on my radar but now this definitely changed thanks to you. 11. Oh wow! I don’t really do IG and not a big Kendall fan so this is the first time I’m hearing of the brand. Thanks for this, Allie:) I love the coats, especially the floral one in the second to the last pic.
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend:)

  12. Woahh just can’t stop starring at these coats. So posh and beautiful!

  13. That sounds like a special moment for you; I hope next time you manage to have time to tell her your thoughts! Your photography here is brilliant, by the way, and I’m swooning over the fashion – ALL the soft textures!

  14. Oh wow these are some crazy colourful looks, and I’m surprised that I quite like these! I don’t experiment much with colours or prints haha. Doubt I’d jump in and rock such bold looks anytime soon, but it’s amazing to see how colours and prints can be mixed and played around with. And don’t be sad, maybe Grace C. appreciated not being stopped on the road by a random stranger. Pretty fantastic to bump into her on the streets tho! <3

  15. I took a huge step back from social media because I got tired of living my life through the screen. I love watching my little one play without the need to record every moment, just enjoy that moment. I’ve also been leaving the house without my phone these days, am no longer a slave to it.

  16. Oh wow so many amazing outfits for the season xx

  17. Inspiring 🙂

  18. I’ve actually never heard of Saks Potts before but I can see why the brand is popular at the moment! The statement coats are gorgeous and I love that they are not afraid to play around with colors and prints together. And I agree that with the constant content we see from social media it seems most people don’t take the time to stop and appreciate real talent.
