This past Memorial Day weekend was fun and relaxing. On Memorial Day itself I generally do not do too much and I certainly do not shop. This holiday is a day of remembrance and giving thanks to those that served. I don’t think this should be day of cookouts and sales. In my opinion Memorial Day should be a specific day of the week and not moved to the second to last Monday of the month of May so people can have a three day weekend. The point of the holiday is to take the time out to mediate on, and give tribute to those who serve and those who lost their lives serving.
Not that I am opposed to a three day holiday weekend to kick off summer but I believe it should be separate from Memorial Day and be similar to Labor Day, because as we know Americans work more then any other industrialized society so a three day weekend to start of the summer season is well deserved. Any how on to how I spent my weekend. On Saturday I met with Elle of the Elle Dairies and we did indeed shop. We went to Housing Works where they were having a %40 off the entire store Memorial Day Weekend sale. I did quite well, stay tuned for haul on that. Sunday I relaxed and on Monday I did a major spring cleaning and more or less wiped myself out. I was exhausted.
Elle and I had a wonderful time. She too picked up a few things and it was great having her there for a second opinion. After we finished shopping we headed to her place and did some shooting on her rooftop. We more or less had the whole place to ourselves until quite late in the day when her neighbor came up for an evening respite. After shooting we headed indoors for dinner. We would have had dinner on the roof but the weather turned, and it got quite cold.
Elle shot these photos with my new 24mm lens which on a cropped sensor, and is more like a 35mm lens. We had a great time shooting and I think she did an outstanding job. I am wearing a Zara jacket that I have had for about four years now. The tee is from Givenchy and I picked this up when I went thrift shopping with my Parisian step-niece in Brooklyn. The jeans are also not new, I got them last year at H&M. The bag is from Rebecca Minkoff, I have had it for about two years. And the shoes are from And Other Stories. I got them this past Fashion Week, they were %40 off and a half size too big, but I made it work! And Finally the sunnies are Elle’s, I love the straight top and the pearl details, I so need to get a pair for myself! Yes?

Thank you for bringing up the real meaning and significance of Memorial Day. It really bothers me when people say happy memorial Day. It is not a happy day. It is one of reverence and remembrance which somehow got lost. I don’t want to see selfies or pictures of what people are eating or their shopping hauls on that day. I agree with you that it should be moved to a different day though I’m not sure it would make a difference because the true meaning has become lost on most people. That blazer is fabulous and the whole look you put together is perfect effortless chic Allie!
Wow, you do look great, and the ootd is just as outstanding as I remember .You are an easy subject to capture, natural beauty.

There are so many observed days of the year internationally that many people have forgotten, just as Remembrance Day, which is in November. I like your outfit and these photos are really lovely! <3 I hope you have a great new week ahead. <3

Your look with the leo blazer is perfect, dear Allie! I love it! And it speaks in your favour you didn’t shop on Memorial Day. In Germany on public holidays are all shops closed and therefore there is no temptation 🙂

I first saw this outfit on you on Instagram and I really loved it; very beautiful styling and great accessories.
I 100% agree with you that Memorial Day’s true meaning has been lost on a lot of people, but I’d also argue that this is the case for many holidays nowadays. A couple of years back you would never have someone shop on Thanksgiving day because you were supposed to be with your family and yet now you see so many stores that are opening up at 5 or 6 pm for “early shopping deals”. Anyway, I love this outfit and the points you made.

I think most holidays are losing their meaning because of overcompensation and commercialization. Sometimes we need to take some time and think what it is really about.
I love your styling. That blazer is fabulous. Fantastic photographs on the rooftop. You look great!!!!!
I totally agree with you. Memorial Day should be about meditation and remembrance, not shopping. I love your shoes so much.

This whole outfit is gorgeous and I love all the photos! The rooftop was a great location choice. I love the leopard print blazer with the distressed jeans, and the glitter heels are a fun added detail. And I agree with you that Memorial Day should be a day of remembrance and not just sales.

I completely agree with what you said about memorial day. It is not a day to have fun and celebrate but a day to remember our heroes in the past. This is really a sensible post.

Good job Allie! And is good to know a little more about Memorial Day, actually many many holidays have a lot of meaning behind and we should take the time to learn from the past to improve our future 🙂
I think this is such a good option for a free day, the thing I like the most: definitely the print, it is so fierce and powerful that will look good with almost everything: like a basic shirt and some jeans like this proposal 🙂
Best regards!
