It is a new year and of course that means there is a new Pantone Color of the Year, and the color named for 2015 is quite the departure from previous years—it is a dark, rich toned hue, and is named after the well known wine that hails from the city of Marsala in the southern region of Italy. This deep burgundy color with it’s warm brown undertones is versatile, elegant in nature and sophisticated. So when I was waiting in line at Pret-a-Manger and spied a women wearing a pair of faux, pattern-leather snakeskin high tops in this color, I was beside myself! As soon as I got back to my desk I hopped online and headed directly to the Nike website. Surprisingly, it took a little digging to find them, and they were also NOT available at the local Nike store were I work in Soho. They run very small which is also surprising in this age of “downsizing”. They are part of the Blazer line and run a half to a whole size small, depending on the type of sock you are going to wear with them. I am a traditional six and half and I had to get a size seven. I originally ordered the six and half as I am so used to having to go down a size or two in everything , but this size was too tight with a heavier sock. Luckily, there is a Nike store close to my office so I was able to return them at the store. I chose to receive my credit via a gift card and I then went back online and reordered them in a seven. Honestly, I think I could have even gotten away with a seven and half. So if you plan on ordering these beauties keep in mind they run quite small.
