I am all about dresses in the summer, a New York summer can pretty sticky and HOT. So the last thing you want to wear when the three H’s are raging is skinny jeans and a clingy top. I made this mistake my first summer back in New York after a decade in the cool rainy pacific north west. There was one day in early June when I was visiting a friend who has a booth at the Brooklyn Flea where the temperatures
All I wanted to do was rip off my jeans and dive in to the nearest swimming pool. Unfortunately this was not an option
soared to ninety plus degrees at about seventy percent humidity. All I wanted to do was rip off my jeans and dive in to the nearest swimming pool. Unfortunately this was not an option, luckily I was at a flea market and was able to find a lose fitting light cotton dress which I promptly changed in to and was able to enjoy the rest of my day. But since then I have been on a mission to add more breezy summer dresses to my wardrobe, so I am super delighted that the bohemian trend is still going strong. From shirt dresses, to maxi dresses, to peasant frocks this summer is all about the boho festival revival. With their light, flowing fabrics and romantic prints they are the perfect solution when you need to take a day off from the sporty chic look and stay cool too.
This dress from Free People does double duty when it comes to trends, you have the bohemian and the off the shoulder trends all in one gorgeous piece!
And here is another version of this idea from Urban Outfitters, and I am LOVING this print and I like how this dress falls below the knee.
And if off the shoulder is not your thing this dress fem Top Shop is a modified form of the off the shoulder look, cool right? No need to worry about any unfortunate accidents.
And who doesn’t love a breezy shirt dress for summer, the pattern on this dress from Anthropologie is so fun, I love it, don’t you?
What are your must haves for summer? Do you wear dresses more often in the summer? I find that I do, I like to wear them in winter too, but sometimes depending on the type of dress, if I am wearing them with tights there is all sorts of wrong static things going on. Do you have this problem? I have a pair of wool culottes I almost never wear because they are too warm to wear when the weather is hot, and if it is very cold I need to wear them with tights, and I can assure you, that did NOT go well. So I can only wear them when the temperature is just right so I can wear them sans tights and not sweat or freeze. How you do handle static cling? And the heat? What is your go to when it is hazy, hot and humid?

These dresses are all so pretty!!
Dresses are my go to in the summer as well. It’s just so much easier to throw on one piece and not have to think about much. I wear skirts alot too when it’s warm but then you have to find a top for those ;p
I heard some dryer sheets work wonders for static cling! I never tried the sprays they offer in drugstores, though I imagine that might help a bit too. And I’m all about maxi dresses in the lightest fabrics possible during the summer! NYC is too sweltering for anything else.

I wear more dresses in summer, too! Love the one from Free People 🙂
Dresses are pretty much all I want to wear during the summer, although I don’t think I’ve ever really had a problem with static so sorry, no help for you there 🙁 Those off the shoulder Free People and Urban Outfitters dresses are just calling my name. Unfortunately I have broad shoulders so a lot of the time off the shoulder pieces don’t work for me. Guess I’ll have to try them out in stores!
