Michael Costello Fall 2017 @ NYFW

Today I am sharing with you the show I missed on Thursday thanks to the blizzard. I also did not make it in to work which some may think whooeee a day off, but I worked from home so I did not really have a day off. And I use memory intensive software which runs excruciatingly slow over a VPN. So what would normally take me two hours took six. Plus the intern could also not make it in to work so I had that much more work to due.

Then I shoveled and threw my back out. As you may have guessed by now—I was not having a good day. I considered going to the show any way and hobbling my way in, later in the evening but there were no trains running in or out of the city at the time. So sadly I accepted defeat. But needless to say I was not a happy camper.

Glamour, drama, seduction, you will find it all in Michael Costello’s collection for Fall/Winter 2017.

And after watching the show online I was madder then ever. Stupid blizzard! But wow, what a show. Glamour, drama, seduction, you will find it all in Michael Costello’s collection for Fall/Winter 2017. I have been following Michael’s career since he debuted on season 8 of Project Runway and it is truly exciting to see him come in to his own. From dressing A-list celebrities like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Caitlyn Jenner, and Rita Ora among others. It seems he has really hit his stride and this collection is one of the best yet.

A master of draping and with a keen sense of the female form, Michael Costello creates breath taking fantasies that honor the essence of fashion and femininity. Artfully crafted designs of body hugging lace, flowing mesh, and polka-dot embroidered tulle float down the runway in a whirl of gossamer delight. Plunging necklines, sheer fabrics and barely there corsets smolder in a cooly defiant sexuality.

With a palette of crystalline white, inky black and glittering gray the essential elements of color are secondary to the exquisite orchestration of texture, form and movement

Form fitting mermaid cut dresses with billowing sleeves, are the ying to the yang of flowing satin gowns. And the clingy jumpsuit is having a moment in this collection—from lace, to sequins to floor skimming fringe and sparkling capes it would be hard pressed to find the woman who would not feel like a bombshell in one of these.

With a palette of crystalline white, inky black and glittering gray the essential elements of color are secondary to the exquisite orchestration of texture, form and movement. Add seventies glam-rock inspired hair and makeup, some metallic copper pumps and sandals and you have a splendid celebration of what makes fashion so alluring . So Bravo Michael! And I have said enough. You can see for yourselves this truly magnificent show.

  1. Oh no. I hope things have improved for you since. I saw so many beautiful images of people rushing about in the blizzard, I forget (slash actually have no idea) how unglamorous it can really be!

  4. That winter storm Niko did not do us any favors. I had appts. that day so I had to go out but I just wished that I could’ve stayed home. Bummer that you stayed home but still had to work and even worse that you threw your back out. Hope you’re feeling much better now. This show probably would’ve been even cooler in person but there’s always the next one in September 🙂

  5. Sucks that you had to miss the show, I guess it just wasn’t your day.
Looks like an amazing fashion show, though! Beautiful designs! 🙂

  6. I can’t believe there’s blizzards in NYC but it was probably great getting to catch up with everything!
