Eccentric chic may sound like an oxymoron but with Red Valentino’s lineup for Resort 2017 the layered clashing of patterns and textures in luxurious tapestries, frilly laces and glittering trims embraces an independent mind in a fabulous homage to the boho girl. Grey Gardens may have been the inspiration for this collection but there is nothing dowdy about the looks here: from tulle embroidered with pastel humming birds to exquisite tapestry coats emblazoned with partridges and apple trees to broomstick skirts in alternating stripes of black and white lace and delicate floral maxi dresses, this is a celebration of the femme fatale.
there is a demure sensuality running throughout the collection as well. A quite nod perhaps to something more intense
And the only thing remotely conservative about this collection is the palette, expressed in safe neutral shades, which are peppered with pastels and are occasionally broken up with a ruby red or a jewel toned green, earth tones and animal print dominate. But with peekaboo tulle over a camisole onesie, frothy slip dresses with sheer mesh midriff cut outs and crocheted mini dresses there is a demure sensuality running throughout the collection as well. A quite nod perhaps to something more intense. But what ever the case, it makes for some gorgeously opulent pieces, and a true expression of the free spirited embracement of feminine form.
