Though a bit soggy my Fashion Week kicked off with a menswear show at Spring Studios on the evening of the sixth. I attended the Fix and Fax SS2020 menswear show by Katya Leonovich who also designs women’s wear. With an odd sounding name and ambiguous intonation, it is not surprising that the name of the Katya’s menswear line is named after her pet rats. I could be wrong, but it just may be the first time in fashion history that a menswear line was named for a pair of pet rats. Katya even created a print from a series of paintings she did of the pair, which it made it’s appearance in the Fall 2019 lineups. And this independent rebellious spirit carries through for SS2020, and is expressed in a vibrant, color saturated collection of unexpected takes on the male physique.
Using raw silk from India, organza, nylon and pop art prints Katya creates a unique world of casual streetwear with the flair of a rockstar. With iridescent finishes, metallic sheens and neon colors the lineup is standout of color and form. From vinyl like trenches, to faux fur kimono coats, nasa inspired jumpsuits and brilliant pop art prints the collection for SS2020 is a bold, take no prisoners approach to the often less bodacious world of menswear.
