These hand built and hand illustrated sculptured pieces by Laura Peters are made from porcelain slabs and stoneware clay. Each one is meticulously created by hand, so no two are alike. Many of the pieces are fired traditionally in a raku kiln. For those of you are don’t know–a raku is an ancient Japanese ceramic firing process. Laura also uses stamps and press molds made from shells, leaves and other natural items to embellish her sculptures, however she never uses decals or transfers of any kind. A variety of glazing processes are used, including white crackle glazing and under glazing. I just love the life like yet whimsical feel to the animals in her pieces. From vases to mugs, to sculptures , to a five piece sake set these pieces are not only beautiful but they are also functional. They make wonderful gifts–especially for the animal love in your life. And true to the spirit of the creatures in her work–nothing goes to waste. Laura even makes jewelry from the unfortunate pieces of broken pottery. Please visit Laura’s shop IndigoBirdStudio on Etsy to see more of her work to find out more about this wonderful artist.
