it is refreshing to wear pieces that are a bit more middle of the road—feminine but with an understated less obvious sex appeal

In recent years I have been stepping away from ultra body con looks, though I still do skinny jeans. And although a sexy dress is still a staple in any self respecting fashionista’s wardrobe it is refreshing to wear pieces that are a bit more middle of the road—feminine but with an understated less obvious sex appeal. A demure lady that quietly commands the room with an unspoken strength. Thom Browne’s latest collection for Pre Autumn 2015-16 embraces this aesthetic with a lovely whimsical yet serious graceful quality. Boxy suits in rough hewn tweeds are countered by playful mini skirts that are paired with preppy pull-overs and classic cut Chanel like coats and jackets. Wide bottomed trousers are equally at home with more fitted capri cut pants and are often topped by blazers in generous relaxed fits. Tweeds, jacquards and wool keep this androgynous line up grounded in a more traditional vein, while the cool tone neutral palette speaks to the quite more austere season of winter. The low heeled shoe boots and luggage bags lend an air of worldly intelligence, and balance the prominence of the weighty outwear. Coats are long, boxy and often double breasted which plays into the uniform feel the designer was wishing to convey, and is an appealing feminine take on a man’s suit with a hint of a collegiate uniform . These more buttoned up genres come together and give way to the edgier gender bending aspects in a provocative yet highly wearable collection. To see more from this collection head to Bessd.com

  5. Body con looks have never been my thing and I ‘m a big fan of feminine menswear style so this collection is totally calling my name! I’m in love with the collarless boucle coat! That’s cool that you work near Chinatown. I live adjacent to it myself.

  6. I am loving almost every piece for this collection. My favorite is the first coat. I saw something similar a few days ago and almost purchased it. Now I am really wishing that I had.

P.S. We are hosting our Christmas card exchange again this year and hope you can join. The post is up on our blog right now but to join all you need to do is email us your mailing info.

  7. The collection appears to be very British to me, retro like the 60s. I might be wrong but that’s what it reminds me of…..and the wardrobe of The Man from U.N.C.L.E

  8. I’ve been obsessed with Thom Browne for a few seasons now! I think he’s a creative genius, and doesn’t necessarily confine himself to the demands of the mass market from season to season. I can really appreciate the fantasy he creates with his looks.

  18. Allie,
an inspiring collection for all of the reasons you so elegantly stated . Love the fresh mix of menswear, with boxy coat silhouettes, that touch of varsity and the famine allure of old world elegance and fur trim. The satchels are stunning !
These looks may be a bit hard to pull of for someone who is not tall, but I love the aesthetic here!
