The Y2K trend has been with us for a few seasons now, and it is still going strong. The early 2000s was a bit of controversial time in the fashion industry with women being held to a fairly unattainable aesthetic. The look was heavily centered on women who were very thin and for most part lacking any curves. Many female celebrities were bullied for their weight and how they looked.
Low slung jeans, skirts and trousers paired with crop tops and unbuttoned shirts dominated the look. Which for many women could look ridiculous unless they possessed the stick thin figure the aesthetic required. I think many ladies breathed a collective sigh of relief when this trend passed.
Fast forward to today and the trend still attains many of the same attributes as it did the first time around, albite it is a bit more forgiving these days. There is more than one way to do this trend, and we see more older people pulling it off, as well as people who do not necessarily have the traditional straight model figure. So, it seems one can dip their toe in the trend and adapt it for themselves.
So, what say you? Are you on board with this trend? Do you think only the very thin and the very young can pull this off? I am not in my twenties and I am not stick thin with a flat abdomen but I just may try some of these looks for Fashion Week. Would you try any of them? I just may do a video on this topic so stay tuned. And BTW I think that last image is a doppelganger of my younger self LOL.

Belt worn over blazer, corsages over loose shirts and leopard pattern.
I love it!
Have a nice Sunday
I admit that I have nothing against this trend, everyone will definitely find something for themselves in it 😉
Interesting styles !
Confesso que não usaria! Bom Domingo ????
I didn’t dress like that then, I won’t dress like that now. It’s funny what comes back. It’s often stuff I hated initially, so I’m very good with ignoring it.
Great post! The Y2K trend is back and more inclusive this time. It’s fun to see how people of all ages and body types are rocking it. I’m excited to see your video on this topic!
Yes I think it is more varied this time around.
Some I might wear others, no.

I can’t pull this off now. Maybe when i was in my early 20s though. Great post.

What a nostalgic post Allie! I remember these tends well. In 2000 I was trying to wear a crop top and baggy pants to school. Let’s just say my mom wasn’t cool with her 8th grader soon to 9th grader wearing that to class lol.
I am far too old to wear any of these but at the risk of sounding like my mum, I remember it all the first and possibly second time around ha ha xxx
Nice
I do think that every trend can and should be adapted to suit us, not the other way around.
I hope we have gotten smarter as a society and don’t push the ultra skinny body trend anymore. Bodies should never be trends.
I remember how those poor female celebrities were bullied during the early 2000s. No wonder so many of them had eating disorders and mental problems.
Anyhow, Y2K is not my favourite fashion era, but I can always find sth I like in each fashion period so I might do this trend.
To be honest I’m not that crazy for the 2ky fashion comeback, even if I really like some pieces, especially crop tops!
But I like even corsets, blazers and belts!

I like the first outfit, but as you said, I am not in my twenties anymore. This is just not my style, but I appreciate the ones who can wear it well, no matter what!
FASHION TALES
With this style, I assume that I’m throwing everything into shorts and t-shirts, the rest doesn’t suit me or my style, but I loved the inspirations.

I remember the Y2K trend well, though I didn’t fully embrace it back then. It’s great to see how it’s evolved to be more inclusive now. Your insights on adapting it for different body types and ages are inspiring.
Happy Wednesday, Allie!
I did love this trend back in the days but I am afraid it doesn’t represent my anymore. The new version maybe could do for me but for how things are going lately, I tend to neglect fashion…
Loved your article, very well studied, it discusses many social and psychological aspects of the past and present trend.
It’s definitely not my style. I don’t like big clothes.
Best regards and have a nice day 🙂
I’ve actually been digging working a few Y2K elements into my looks recently- I even bought a pair of bermuda shorts, haha!

I’ve always been unsure about this trend, but there are some pieces I do like!

I have to say that this is my least favorite trend in the past couple of years. Boxy shapes don’t work well on me which is probably why. I do like the edgy and grunge factor so I might a little bit of that vibe to my wardrobe. Love all the Y2K inspiration here!

Cool styles, I like some.
I actually am a big fan of this trend, Allie:) I don’t think I ever really did not like it:D And I don’t think one has to be skinny, thin or young to pull it off! I can’t wait to see what you come up with when you do these looks:)
Have a great week ahead!
I think if it is a person’s style is great, but it is not my style. Although tee and denim trousers Y2K style I might try it. It sounds like fun exploring this look though. I am looking forward to seeing your next posts.

Hello
I like the inspirations and I don’t obey any rules of any aesthetics, I wear what I like and that’s my only rule! I like some of these looks even though I don’t have that figure I could wear them too!

I love seeing different styles pop back up! While I may not indulge, I still love seeing how people style them. The colors and the prints are so nostalgic. Wonderful photos!
Ohhh wow. I don’t think I can pull off this trend. Looks so cool on these girls! They are totally rocking it!

Gosh, they are not kidding when they say fashion goes in cycles. Attractive styles, some I remember.
I was very thin for this trend the first time around but I don’t think I loved it even back then. Low rise pants have never been my jam. Give me the high waist mom jeans any day of the week. The wide leg jeans were a nightmare when it rained. One small puddle step and your whole pant let was soaked for hours. However, I did have a pair of those red plaid pants that the last model is wearing and LOVED them! I’d definitely try to pull them off again, even with my womanly curves I’ve added to my frame over the last 20 years.
very beautiful style, have a good day 🙂
beautiful sytle, have a good day:)
I like the Y2K look amazing that you can start a trend by pairing different items together like that.
I will always love the low slung jeans. But no matter how flat my abdomen, no one wants to see my white belly and stretch marks in a crop top. Personally, I was never a fan of the baggy clothes trends. Form fitting suits my body best.
Interesting styles, I think you can be inspired by them 🙂 I think that everyone should find their own style, one in which they will feel good. To be myself.
Yes you’re right, it’s so good to have a break from the social media bubble. I love to read these magazines to know what happens in the world of celebrity 😀 Thank you <3
Great post with nice outfits. I like the one with the oversized shirts and denim the most, they look super cool.
Some of these looks are a bit more ‘out there’ than I would dare to try! I much prefer high-waisted jeans but I don’t mind wearing a crop top with those. I tend to combine styles and just wear what I like rather than following specific trends. But I definitely don’t think anyone should be limited from trying a trend just because of their body shape.
I think when done right, this trend can look really cool on a lot of people! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and some of this outfit inspo! 🙂

Great post. Quite interesting trend!
I’ve never heard of this trend, but in my neck of the woods people would never dress this way. No, I would never try it.
Some of these outfits are really cool, but I’m not a fan of this kind of aesthetic.
I totally remember rocking the low-rise jeans back in the day! It’s great to see that the Y2K trend is now more inclusive!

Don’t think I can pull any off but love seeing your curations! xx

I love the leopard maxi and I’m getting myself one for sure! <3

Sorry but no. The life I live, the people I hang out with.. none of it would vibe well with the y2k trend.
Fashion can be inspiration and fun- I like so many pieces from this post – great post
I think anyone can pull off trends, but the Y2K trend isn’t for me. Some of the looks do look cool though!
