Today starts the official kickoff of NYFW SS2021. Last season was the first season where Fashion Week took place during the pandemic and what we now know as the new normal. Last season the shows were held in September as most of you know, so the weather of course, was much warmer. The Flying Solo shows were held on a rooftop much like they were this season. I attended the shows on Saturday and baby it was COLD. It was so cold my phone would not work. The iPhone is only promised to work at 32 degrees and not below, which it did not. The phone was too cold to read the sim card, so I could not do anything except use the camera. And my G7X also gave me some problems with the battery dying after about 45 minutes due to the extreme cold. And the models? Boy were they troopers. They were literally wearing bathing suits on a rooftop where you could see snow and ice on the edges. Remember the first season of ANTM with the models shooting bathing suits in the winter on a rooftop in NYC? Yes this happens, the struggle is real!
I shot this photo last Fashion Week in September. I took quite a few photos I was surprised as turn out was much lower then usual. And this season it is even lower, with the super cold temperatures and the unending snow it is just one more issue to have to deal with, and it seems everyone has kind of reached their saturation point. But there are shows, I was invited to a number of virtual shows and there are in person shows as well. I will be posting the photos I took last season over the next few weeks/months. I was unable to do so in the fall due to the passing of my mom. I really hope 2021 is a better year and I truly hope that this September there will be a more normal and vibrant Fashion Week. And stay tuned for a video next week…

I’m excited to see how designers, influencers, reporters, journalists, photographers, etc approach to this peculiar edition of FW. I imagine it feels weird to celebrate fashion in these conditions, but I’m sure some creative ideas will come out from here!

As for fashion week, I love style and fashion but I’m less interested in fashion weeks as time goes by and shops remain closed…I am getting my life with the odd online purchase, well more than a few online purchases but I’m marching to the beat of my own drum.
