NYFW FALL 2020 Street Style #10

Today marks the first day of a three day digital, audience free Fashion Week . How different things are now. And it is amazing how much more efficient Europe has been handling the pandemic. People there are even allowed to travel and a more traditional Fashion Week is going to be held in Paris albite not quite the same as usual. Who knows when things will be “back to normal”. According to BOF digital Fashion Week for Men’s Fashion Week and Couture Fashion Week were total flops. And did not generate the buzz or nearly the same amount of social media hits as in-person Fashion Week generates.

This does not surprise me in the the least. Fashion Week is an event and it is about more then just viewing the collections. Yes, that is the main reason for attending Fashion Week but it is not the only reason, and in many ways the attendees themselves are now just as important to the overall event as is street style photography and video footage; with many of the attendees donning the labels walking the runway. This can not be captured remotely. I am not sure what the new normal will be, or when we will get back to the umm “old normal“. But I do know that sterile shows held remotely will never capture the joy, excitement and creative buzz a traditional in person fashion show can generate. After all; passion, joy and the creative spark can not exist in a vacuum. Without the breath of the denizens of fashionistas who breath life into the industry, it will only die out and be a shadow of itself.
