The second show I attended which should have been my forth if not for the blizzard from hell that blew in the second day of Fashion Week was Verdad at Pier 59 Studios. This is the second season for the label to show in New York, which was founded by veteran designer Louis Verdad. Based in Los Angeles and with a background styling and designing for such luminaries as Madonna, Louis Verdad seeks to take his label in a new direction to target a younger clientele with a keen sense of fashion.
The first collection which debuted last season featured a lot of denim, crisp whites, bohemian floral prints and looser, non body con fits, but with expert tailoring. The lineup for fall continues in this vein but with even more emphasis on loose cuts and draping.
For Fall 2017 VERDAD is millennial driven, sleek, relatable and above all else wearable… – Louis Verdad
You will billowing dresses, over-sized wide-leg track style pants, and flowing coats. Which is balanced by more tailored and structural pieces like the traditional cigarette cut trousers, fitted moto jackets and crop tops.
Texture also plays a role with glittery metallic knits, silk charmeuse, laminated denim, chiffon, patent leather, gabardine wool and gold lame combing in a juxtaposition of contrasting beauty. With a push pull of street-influenced everyday wear in wool plaids and leather, with water color inspired flowing prints and layers of iridescent fabrics and unexpected cuts in asymmetrical deconstructed looks; this collection embodies the downtown urban essence of the new millennial woman. And what could be better then that?
