W ho doesn’t love a night filled with beauty, wine and swag. Well last Thursday evening I was enjoying all of these benefits and then some at New Beauty Magazine’s Experiential Night of Beauty in celebration of their ten year anniversary. I attended the event with fellow blogger Renata of Purse Fixation who looked lovely in her pale pink bow blouse which was a nice contrast to my black H to T ensemble. I wore a black Alice and Olivia dress with a fitted black blazer from H&M, yes it is officially spring but with 35 degree temperatures and rain, I dressed accordingly. The weather may have been less then inviting outdoors but once we entered the luxurious space at 404 tenth avenue it was easy to forget the less then inviting elements. We were greeted with chilled wine and scrumptious cocktails as we stepped in to a two level space of white walls, white lacquered tables, fresh flowers, and complexion enhancing lighting. With two floors filled to the brim with high-end beauty products, and companies that are on the cutting edge of beauty enhancing technologies I was excited to learn more about how I could turn back the clock and look my glowing best. OK I may not actually be able to turn the clock back but who doesn’t want to show the world a slightly better version of themselves. I am a firm believer in taking care of your body inside and out. I eat a relatively healthy diet, take antioxidants, and drink lots of water. I always wear sunscreen, and I have been using moisturizer since I was twelve. But once you are out of your twenties and once you are over age thirty five then moisturizer in of itself is not enough. It is also never too early to take care of your skin, so wether you are in your 20s, 30s 40s, 50s or over, tending to your biggest organ is not only a win win it is a must.

I made the rounds, introduced myself to the reps and owners of the companies, sampled products and learned what the future holds for skin care technologies. From Nasa inspired at home lasers from Baby Quasar to skin care specialists Lumene who are known for their vitamin C based products to the Spanish company Natura Bisse which was founded in 1979 by Ricardo Fisas Mulleras who I had the great pleasure of meeting, and who are known for their Diamond collection—I was duly impressed with the hard work and research the goes in to bringing these products to the market place. In addition to the beauty based companies there were makeup companies, hair product companies, and even a tooth whitening booth. I was gifted a luxurious lip crayon from Glo-Minerals in a lovely shade of brick-burgundy from their Suede Matte Collection, which I added to my bag of beauty filled goodies and I know I will get a lot of use of it. The shade matches my own natural lip color and it comes with a built in sharpener so I can always keep it sharp—no more tossing out lip pencils because they are dull and I can not find my sharpener. Kind of genius I must say.

There was also a nail bar, a braid bar from John Barrett and a makeover station from Real Techniques who make some of the softest and well designed makeup brushes currently on the market. I didn’t want to wait for my nails to dry so I skipped the nail bar, but I was tempted as it came with a ten minute hand massage. Though I did get my hair braided (and note you can see the awful bangs I am still growing out—it has been two and half months) I also got a quick makeover and loved the smoky eye the makeup artist created, gosh I so wish I could get the same results at home. The evening ended with a “shopping” trip in which we were handed a tote bag and could pick ten full-sized products from the sampling bar, and this was in addition to the goodies I had already been gifted. Needless to say I was one happy gal. Renata and I headed into the night warm and buzzy from the wine, our bags of swag at our sides and made plans to meet up again. We stopped momentarily on our way to the train so I could snap this picture, just one of the joys of living in NY. Beauty, Fashion and a timeless skyline. Yup it is great.  And be sure to watch the video from Renata, I make a few cameos. And stay tuned for reviews on the products in the coming weeks. Until next time, may everyone be their beauty best.

  9. Oh, that seriously look like a fun event! And you’re right, a moisturizer itself is no longer enough after the age 35. I found that out in a hurry. My husband said that my skincare regime takes longer these days and it’s true. Toner, serum, moisturizer, night sleeping mask and gawd knows what else is slapped on my face before bed time. It’s a long list of things but it kept my skin at a good condition so I keep doing it. :-/
