As we celebrate the holidays with our family and friends and give thanks for all the things we have—or at least we should. I must say it never ceases to astound me the level of first world complaining I encounter online and offline. I often think to myself what if something really big went down? How would the well fed first world respond?
In fact very few people are aware of how close we came during the banking crisis to a Walking Dead like break down of civilization. It was reported on the news last week that a fifth of the people in the UK thought Winston Churchill was a made up character from a book or movie.
So the first world needs to get woke
So the first world needs to get woke. But sadly as much of the first world has the mind set of a privileged teenager blissfully unaware of how their entitled freedom is not an entitlement, I don’t see this changing anytime soon.
But lets hope with all the doom and gloom, and over whelming news cycle of corruption and crisis that we can remember to give, to give back, and to keep in mind that we are all interconnected.
Please give and be well this holiday season
So today I am sharing with you five charities that you can give to this holiday season. And most of them allow you to give as much or as little as you want. And it is never to late to give, even after the season has passed.
Though, the Nordstrom giving tree is only through December 24th. But from aid to the refugees in Yemen to free legal aid to detainees at the border, to desks for children in Africa, to helping abused dogs of the meat trade. Please give and be well this holiday season.
1) Nordstrom Children’s Miracle Hospital Network
2) Mercy Corp Aid to Yemen refugees

This is such a lovely idea and message to spread via your blog! This time of year truly can be the hardest for those in need; I always make sure to donate that little bit more thorough December. Have a fabulous week!

I totally agree with you on this, that we should be grateful of what we have. Many of us are blessed in so many ways and we should at least donate or do something to help those that are in need. Even living in a 3rd world country like mine, the entitlement issue exist too. I’ve been thinking of donating to animal shelters for the past few years and I’ll do the same this year.
That post is so lovely! Nice thoughts 🙂

This is a very important message that needs to be said more. We often forget how blessed we are and although the holidays are a great reminder to give back, it should happen at other times of the year too. Great list of charities and I’ll have to look into a few to give to. Thank you for sharing this!

Thank you for this post, Allie! It’s important to remember the less fortunate especially during this time of the year.
Nice post and and very timely topic.
Giving and sharing is better than receiving.

Thanks for sharing the lovely post.
Such a lovely reminder to think about more than presents and shopping during Christmas season – for me its also the time for gratitude and spending time with my family is the most important ♥

You’re so right that it’s especially important to remember to give back during the holidays. Thanks for putting together this list of worthy charities.
Wise thoughts, I agree with you. I always wonder how we can complain, while in another part of the world or sometimes even in the neighborhood people are dying of hunger, they are abused and the dogs are skinned alive.
I love this post. Literally every other Christmas post that I’ve read has been about the best things to buy and what tacky souveniers to buy for your loved ones – honestly though, this is such a brilliant idea. I think I’m going to ask for donations this year.
Have a great week 🙂

I’ve just donated to an animal shelter, it’s not so cold now, but when it becomes, it will be really important for the animals to have a warm place.
thank you for supporting great causes,xx

It is amazing isn’t it?! I know a few reality shows I was watching and the complaints had my eyes rolling. From having to “downsize” from and estate to a mansion or the inconvenience of paying $21000 a month in rent. A lot of people don’t even have the luxury of a roof over their head. I feel like the past few years we’ve become pretty self absorbed, especially during Xmas. All that kindness and cheer has been forgotten and not enough reminders to be kind have gone around.
Anyhoo, I hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year A. Wishing you all the best for 2019.

Giving just a little can mean a lot! You can give your time or your money. I’m always impressed by how hard the food banks in my neighborhood work – all year ’round. Thanks for posting such a positive message.
Great Message; it is indeed the season of love and giving. Thanks so much for sharing this inspiration.
This is such a great idea dear. Indeed, this season is about kindness and compassion to others. Thanks for sharing this!

What a worthwhile post!
Yes, the stuff we complain about ..the abundance we take for granted.. some more than others, but all of us are guilty I think..I know I am.
Watching the news, all of it, and not just the popular bits, is enlightening..
We need to hunker down as nation, take stock and be kind to our neighbors…
