Link Love Express # 10 All about Cameras

Happy 4h of July weekend everyone. I did not have a four day weekend and I am working today. But we do get a half day so I am looking forward to the mini break. I know I have spoken on the blog in the past about purchasing a new camera for vlogging and I have done quite a bit of research on vlogging cameras. So in todays Link Love Express it is going to be all about cameras. Each link either reviews the G7X or compares it to other cameras.

After all the research I am going to go with the Canon G7X, I had also been considering the Sony Alpha 5100 vlogging camera but the superior image stabilization of the Canon won me over.

It seems the biggest con with the Canon G7X is the onboard microphone and the lack of a mount or port for an external microphone for better sound quality.

the only cavet being that they also block the selfie screen some what when in the flipped up position. Not ideal but better then low audio quality

The quality of the sound on the G7X is not bad but it will never be as good as a direct or shotgun microphone. However the one saving grace is you can by a micro muff from Micromuff.com. These tiny muffs do a great job at blocking wind, the only cavet being that they also block the selfie screen some what when in the flipped up position. Not ideal but better then low audio quality.

The only thing that is making he hold off on purchasing the G7X Mark II is I am worried that the G7X Mark III will come out a few months from now. The G7X Mark II came out in June 2016 and the average is one to two years between upgrades. If I bought the Mark II and then the Mark III came out three or four months later my head would explode.

For many people this is not a problem, but for someone like me with a lot of pink in their complexion this could be an issue

And the only other issue I noticed with the G7X in the comparisons is that the G7X tends to lean towards magenta, while the Sony leans more towards yellow. For many people this is not a problem, but for someone like me with a lot of pink in their complexion this could be an issue. Note the link of the mini muff review. I am not sure if there is a setting on the camera I can change to compensate for this. If any of you have this camera and know of a setting like this please fill me in.

I hope you find this a valuable resource, and I hope you benefit from my research. So grab a cup a joe, pull up a chair and get your You Tube game on.

  1. Team No Four Day Weekend over here too. Boo. I’ve never tried these cameras, but have been curious as to how they work and reviews on them.

  3. The Canon G7X is quite a popular camera. If the color is an issue for you , you should see if the white balance settings in camera can correct it.

  4. It’s amazing how far your knowledge has expanded since last year or was it early this year when you wanted to learn more about photography. This is a great read, Allie!

  5. Interesting. Many bloggers have moved into video. (I won’t because I prefer writing to speaking.) It seems like a big learning-curve in terms of equipment and editing. Good luck!

  6. I bought the G7X last year and love it! It’s my main camera (until I buy a nicer one) although I haven’t even used it to vlog yet. The video is VERY good though, amazingly clear with great autofocus and stabilization. Definitely worth the money and does a great job in a pinch for normal photo taking!

  7. Let me join the club of no four day weekend 🙂 So bad, but well, could be have been worse. Happy 4th of July for you too! I shoot most of my outfit pictures with a Canon, but I am hopeless when it comes to notice things… it’s heavy, but I cannot say anything about videos, since I never record videos with it… I agree that the sound with a microphone must be better, but cameras are doing a good job, these days 🙂 Hope you have a nice week!

  8. I didn’t have a 4-day weekend either 🙁 But I’m definitely enjoying my time off today! I’m also in need of a new camera so this was a great post!

  9. I really wish I knew more about cameras. I’d like to use something better than my phone or a point and shoot 🙂

  10. I like watching vlogs but have never really considered what goes into producing them! Thanks for doing the hard work for us.
