a paise teddybeat coat and zebra print boots

Fashion - alimackin@gmail.com - February 5, 2018

I am so in love with teddybear coats. I like how roomy they are and the non body con aesthetic.

I am a big fan of teddybear coats. I like how roomy they are and the non body con aesthetic. It allows you to wear a blazer or jacket underneath without it being too tight. Plus they are also very warm. I purchased this coat last year at Paise and I so need to add another one to my wardrobe.

I wore it over a blouse and jeans from H&M. The lace button down blouse I have had for few years now, and the jeans I picked up this past summer. The show stopping boots are from &OtherStories.

I don’t pay more then fifty dollars for sun glasses as I loose them all the time

I love them so eye catching, and with the lower heel I can wear them all day. And aren’t these mirrored sunnies fun? I did not pay a lot for them but they look fairly expensive. I don’t pay more then fifty dollars for sun glasses because I am notorious for losing them.

And you have probably seen this bag before which is from Michael Kors I use it all the time and got it on sale. It was a bit more then I wanted to spend but I am so glad I went with this purchase!

A Paisie Winter Teddy Bear Coat and a creepy postal worker

Fashion - alimackin@gmail.com - February 6, 2017

Yes winter has finally arrived here in New York. And as we head towards NYFW I suspect it may get even colder. It seems no matter how mild a winter may be when NYFW arrives

Yes winter has finally arrived here in New York. And as we head towards NYFW I suspect it may get even colder. It seems no matter how mild a winter may be when NYFW arrives it brings the polar vortex along with it. This weekend it was in the mid twenties for a high. So it was a cold one and being out and about was a bit of a challenge. In fact the start to my entire day on Saturday was a bit of a challenge.

The first fly in the ointment was when I realized I had left my phone at home. Great. How was I going to contact my friend Angela who I was meeting up with? Luckily I was going to get my hair done at the salon where my friend also has her hair done so I was able to ask the owner if she had Angela’s number on file and she did, so I was able to call Angela and give her the low down. Whew. Then after I realized that I had left my phone at home I discovered that I left my ear muffs on the train. Ugh. And then when we finally went to shoot, I realized I had brought the wrong lens.

My friend Angela was aghast. I decided right then and there I needed a drink

Ok so far the morning had gone just GREAT! Grrrr. Between an intense full-time job in publishing, maintaing a blog full-time and the current geo-political situation, I am more then a little stressed. And to top it off, towards the end of our shoot a postal worker who had been sitting in his truck, came up to us and asked if we wanted to continue the shoot in his truck. Umm, what? My friend Angela was aghast. I decided right then and there I needed a drink. And we  quickly packed up and headed to lunch, and I did indeed order a much needed glass of wine.

Now on to the clothes. Is this a great teddy bear coat or what? I purchased it online from a company called Paisie. I had seen a young woman wearing it as I was waiting in line at Starbucks. I asked her where she got it and she told me about this British company called Paisie. As soon as I got back to my desk I headed to said website, found the coat, which luckily for me they had in my size and promptly bought it. Plus it was on sale! This was a good day.

The top which I think is intended to be worn as a dress is from Vivienne Tam. And the patch work jeans are from Gap. And as many of know the boots are from Zara which I wrote about in this post. I love these booties, super fun to wear and uber comfortable. The sunnies are from Michael Kors and the bag was a Christmas gift from my sister and is from Onna Ehrlich’s winter collection. But it is the teddy bear coat that really pulls this look together. Do you have a teddy bear coat? Do you like them? And if you do, how do you style yours?

A J Crew Navy Ruffle Blouse and A Micheal Kors Cross Body for a day in Williamsburg Brooklyn

Fall is one of my favorite seasons and dressing for this fleeting in-between season can be tricky but also fun. The mornings are cold, mid day can be warm, while the evenings are cool. So when dressing for fall weather it is all about layering. With this look I could have easily thrown on a long mid-weight relax fit coat. On this particular day it was warm enough to go out sans coat, but a cute tweed blazer kept me comfortable when the wind picked up.

I bought this blazer up at H&M a few years ago and I love it’s versatility and it’s classic cut. On this day I paired it with this long, navy, button down ruffle blouse from J Crew. Isn’t this a great color? And I love the alternative to black. The jeans are from Gap and are my first pair of jeans with a distressed edge. But not my last.

Yes it was a bit of an indulgence but look at it!

I decided to wear them with these mid calf boots from Brusque. I didn’t want to wear high boots as I still wanted to see the distressed edge and it was a bit cool for ankle boots. And I finally got a cross body bag! I love this bag from Michael Kors. I almost bought another bag, it was small and lacked the details this bag has, but it Michael Kors week at Macy’s and all Michael Kor bags were %30 off so I splurged and bought the more expensive bag. Yes it was a bit of an indulgence but look at it!

And then to keep the look from being too dark I added this statement necklace from Loren Hope. The pop of orange and the teardrop details are the perfect compliment to this more sporty look. And the ring from Gorjana is a lovely way to pick up the gold details in the bag. Right? Both of these items were in my latest Rocks Box set and I liked the ring so much I ended up purchasing it. The mirrored sunnies are from Aldo and I bought them in Paris after I lost my second pair of sun glasses with in a month of each other. Oh boy lets see how long I can hold on to these. Wish me luck.

Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2016 For Lookbook Friday

Fashion - alimackin@gmail.com - April 15, 2016

Michael Kors may not be able to carry a tune, but he has definitely brought sexy back with his Pre Fall collection for 2016. Minimalism, relax fit silhouettes and the sporty chic aesthetic still region the runways but that does’t mean that we have to forgo our sexy side.

Michael Kors may not be able to carry a tune, but he has definitely brought sexy back with his Pre Fall collection for 2016. Minimalism, relax fit silhouettes and the sporty chic aesthetic still region the runways but that does’t mean that we have to forgo our sexy side. This collection with it’s sultry lady like buttoned up sex appeal is at once romantic and daring. Lace figures prominently through out the collection and can be seen on a number of knee skimming pieces. It is also intermixed with pleats, layered over other fabrics, and used as detailing on hems, but a stand out for me is the gorgeous lace “go go” dress with the silver over lay. Ooh La La, Megan would drive Don “mad” in this beautifully sensuous dress. Here they have styled it with a pair of crystal studded beach shoes. But I could see this with sheer black tights and silver pumps. Yes? Another favorite is this two toned black and peach two piece. Perfect for the office and for stepping out after work. But if the sporty chic thing is your go to, then the floral trousers and pull over should suffice. Black also dominates this collection and is occasionally broken up with pale peach, a golden green with an almost metallic feel and silver. Yes some may say black is the lazy girls approach to fashion but I for one love it. And it is even better with lace. And this reminds me, I think it is high time for another trip to the stunning Michael Kors store in Soho, who’s with me?

Michael Kors Kitten Heeled Black Suede Pumps Such a Chic Investment

Fashion - alimackin@gmail.com - February 8, 2016

Every one in a while I like to treat myself to a luxurious experience. Sometimes it is a massage at a fancy salon, other times it is an expensive dinner at restaurant in Soho and sometimes it is shopping at designer boutiques. I am definitely going through withdrawals since changing jobs and leaving Soho. That said in the last few weeks I have returned twice to this lovely cobblestoned shopping mecca

That said in the last few weeks I have returned twice to this lovely cobblestoned shopping mecca of a neighborhood  On one of my trips I braved the weekend crowds and set about stopping in at a number of my usual haunts such as Zara and Aldo among others. After a lot of looking but not too much buying due to the unbelievable crowds I got fed up. I saw a number of items in Zara I wanted to try on and even buy, but the aggro inducing crowds were just too off putting. I don’t get anxious in large crowds I get “aggro” I just do not have the patience. So out in to the frosty air I went. Broadway in Soho is challenging on the weekdays let alone a Saturday afternoon. I was just  about to turn off Broadway and head down a side street, which are more manageable, when the Michael Kors store caught my eye.  It’s sleek modern aesthetic set amidst the traditional architecture beckoned me with it’s upscale eye candy.  Michael-kors-pumps

And after fighting with the maddening crowds this was exactly what I needed. The gleaming white walls and dark floors, and mirrored tables and lit up displays, futuristic chandeliers and vaulted ceilings were like an elixir

And after fighting with the maddening crowds this was exactly what I needed. The gleaming white walls and dark floors, and mirrored tables and lit up displays, futuristic chandeliers and vaulted ceilings were like an elixir. There was plenty of room to shop, top notch service and they were even having a sale. I eyed a number of bags but what I really was in the market for was some black pumps and they had exactly what I wanted. And yes ladies they were on sale at %40 off the $70.00 price tag which I think had been reduced from $99.00 I got quite the bargain that day. But even at full price these gorgeous kitten heeled pumps are well worth it. And having such a wonderful luxurious shopping experience is worth the extra cash. For it is the feeling of treating one self, and the feeling of acquiring a luxury item and the sense of accomplishment that is the true reward. And as they say this is priceless. So if you like these pumps as much as I do yes you can head to to Michaelkors.com to get them, but do your self a favor head to the store, trust me you just can’t reproduce this experience online.

I will be sharing some of my favorite links and breaking news in the world of fashion, beauty, interior design, and art. I have shied away from this type of post in the past, but over time I found that I have discovered many wonderful websites, blogs and businesses via this type of post so I figured when in Rome, may as well join the fray! This will not be a weekly series but I hope to introduce you to many fun blogs and brands and to keep you abreast of the all that is happening that any self respecting blogging fashionista would want to know about. So without further adieu…

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”][/dropcap]Snapchat VS Periscope, are you over 25? Here’s a guide.

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”][/dropcap]God’s Love We Deliver dedicates a building to Michael Kors. I work directly across the street from this building and watched it go up for the past year. It was completed this past week and of course there was a ceremony to celebrate and you guessed it, Michael Kors was in attendance. The floor I work on is about 5-6 floors above this building and my fellow employee and I actually caught a glimpse of Michael Kors as he celebrated on the gorgeous roof top.

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]Y[/dropcap] es, it could be said that sales are my downfall, or you could say that I just like a good bargain. In this installment of “Confessions of a Bargainista” I will be sharing with you some of the many purchases I made at French Connection the last few weeks. I mean how could one possible resist the giant black and white signs advertising this most tempting of vices? “I’ll  just take a quick peek” I told myself, standing on the snowy wind swept corner of Spring Street and West Broadway. Well a “quick peek” turned in to forty five minutes, and I walked out with three “I must have these garments” in my possession, and then I went back a week later and bought two more items. So bad, I know. However I will have something to wear to fashion week. This long-sleeved, quilted “Rocky Road Sweat” pull over retailed for $118.00 was marked down to $69.99 and then was an additional %40 off. I am sure you can do the math, but oh yes, I was one happy Bargainista.[blockquote]I have come to appreciate the slow burn of paying full price for a quality item I truly covet[/blockquote] And the trousers retailed for $178.00, were marked down to $109.00 and yup you guessed it—an additional %40 off. I live for these kind of sales and I actually do get a thrill when I feel like I “cleaned up” as they say. Though I must admit, in recent years I have come to appreciate the slow burn of paying full price for a quality item I truly covet. It is a different kind of satisfaction, but just as addicting. And we all know these addictions do need to be fed now and again. I hard a particularly rough week at work, and I also experienced the trauma of a bad haircut for which I received a full refund. So I convinced myself that the only way to spend this new found money and to reward myself for surviving these injustices was a new wallet—which I do desperately need. I am currently running around with a plastic $20.00 special that is peeling and fraying. The only thing that stopped me was the weather and being to lazy to put on the all the layers needed to trek off to the shops. But, there is always next week. So there just may be a Michael Kors wallet out there with my name on it. I thought I would style this top and pant with these booties from Donald J Pilner and this necklace that I picked at the Brooklyn Flea a few years ago. I think this is Fashion Week worthy ensemble, yes?  But with the uber frigid temperatures I will probably ended up wearing my knee high Cole Haan boots instead. But hey, it’s all in the name of fashion! French Connection is still having a sale, so if you are in need of a fix, do stop by.

Take Your Leather Leggings from Day to Night

Fashion - alimackin@gmail.com - April 3, 2014

Giorgio-Armani-Mango-Michael-Kors

Any self respecting fashionista will have a pair of leather (or vegan leather) leggings and a white tee in her closet right? Leather leggings are great because they are so versatile. You can dress them up or down, and going from day to night is a piece of cake. This pair of leather jeans from Mango looks great with a white tee and black ankle strap pumps, but lets dress this look up a bit shall we? First we’ll add a fitted tuxedo cut blazer from Victoria’s Secret—that alone takes this look to the next level. Then we’ll add a statement necklace with plenty of bling, I love this one from Bauble Bar—affordable and an attention getter. And to keep the bling theme going we’ll add a metallic bag like this one from Michael Kors, nothing says I am ready for a night on the town better then metallic accessories. Now If you want to add a pop of color try a bright lip—this hot orange color from Giorgio Armani is a favorite with Allure Readers and will be sure to get you noticed. But, don’t be too matchy matchy. If you are doing a bright or hot lip, keep you mani neutral. Nude or black will work. Personally I like black, it will give this look just a touch of that rock-n-roll edge that will let your date know your a girl that knows her own mind.  So how do you dress up your leather leggings?
