A few weeks ago I spoke about an influencer that had been bullied off every social media platform, and to this day Ashley has yet to return. I discovered Ashely when one of her videos showed up on my suggested feed on YouTube. I love when the algorithm does its job, it can often go wrong, but when it does get it right you are rewarded with a whole new world to discover. And much like Ashly I was rewarded with the discovery of another inspiring influencer—Lara Violetta.

Lara Violetta is relatively new to the influencer world, and she found success quite quickly. I once read a comment where someone said she was like a breath of fresh air in the over crowded content creation realm, and I could not agree more. I believe it is exactly this reason that she become so popular in such a short period of time. With everyone stuck at home during the pandemic, there was a lot more time to spend on social media and people become jaded and burned out with the influencer landscape.
It seemed everyone was doing the same thing in the same way. Everyone had the same eye brows, some lips, same hair. Everyone wore the same looks, and owned the same bags. And much of it was very expensive unaffordable luxury products most us can not afford. The combination of boredom, resentment and overkill had people searching for something new, even if they didn’t know what they were looking for, they knew what they didn’t want.
Her makeup looks nothing like we have seen before with the over conturing and layers of base and rainbow eyes. Her approach is more about glowing skin with unconventional makeup looks. Though as much as I love them, if I tried some of them on myself I would probably look like I have the Plague. But there are other looks I could probably pull off.
But, she has been a busy girlie because she just launched a magazine!
She is predominately on Instagram and TikTok, she uploads to YouTube about once a month—though I wish she would upload there more often. So many influencers come out with their own apparel lines, and in some cases a book, but a magazine? I think Lara is the only one who can claim that fame.
So when Lara’s channel popped up on my que, I too was bored, and quite frankly tired of searching. But inspired by her thumbnail I decided to click on her video and I was hooked. I binged a number of her videos and have been returning ever since. I love her personality and her out of the box style and fresh approach to both fashion and beauty. Yes, Lara does follow some trends but she makes them her own. She often shops second hand, and brands that are up and coming and less well known as well as designer.

I would describe her style as edgy with classic references and quirky accents, if that makes sense. And when it comes to beauty she helped to break the current mold of Cara Delevingne’s uni brow that dominated social media for over a decade by opting to have no eyebrows. Well not no eyebrows, just eyebrows you can’t see. Yes this is a trend with Gen Z and the Y2K influences but still she was one of the first.

Her style reminds me of the beginnings of fashion bloggers, when Lookbook was a reference and inspiration site. I think that the pandemic brought a wave of new creators and influencers who on the one hand saturated the market, but on the other it is good to know that there are still people who can make a difference.
