The Nap Dress-A Super Comfortable Trend We All Need To Rock

Lounge wear is so 2020, with things opening up and more of us getting out and about the last thing we want to throw on is a lounge wear set. Don’t get me wrong I love them for working from home, but with the blue skies, spring air and the sense of optimism I am more than ready to kick my style up a notch.

This term was coined by Hill House with the idea being that the dresses are so comfortable you could nap in them. And who doesn’t want to look chic whilst taking a nap.

But, I do not necessarily want to sacrifice my comfort—enter the nap dress. This term was coined by Hill House with the idea being that the dresses are so comfortable you could nap in them. And who doesn’t want to look chic whilst taking a nap. There is nothing new per say about this style of dress, but what a clever way to describe these uber comfy frocks.
I was inspired to do this post by a young woman I saw when I was waiting for the train, I so wished I had my phone at the ready, I would have loved to snapped a photo of her, or taken a video. Her look was so fresh and looked super comfortable. Her OOTD really caught my eye. She was wearing a long taupe colored cotton nap dress with a distressed cropped denim jacket over it, leopard print slides, and an over-sized tote. I so want to recreate this look, hence my search for the perfect nap dress. I love this take on the maxi/midi dress and I so need one in my closet. Brands like Hill House and Love Shack Fancy have been creating this style of dress for a number of seasons now, but it seems 2021 will be the year this oh so femme frock has its day in the sun.

What say you? Are you on board with this trend? Do you wear maxi or midi dresses? Is this look too homespun for you? The dresses may have a crafty vibe to them, but they can so easily be styled for an urban setting. The super distressed cropped denim jacket the young woman was wearing that I spied at the train station was such a chic way to make this more feminine piece look edgier, and was perfect for a day in the city. Wish me luck on my quest, and you just may see me sporting this loungy chic trend.

  15. I hope you find the perfect dress! being petite I don’t have a lot of midi dresses as they can make me look shorter but I do love a good maxi dress – and you do have to love and outfit that’s comfortable enough to nap in, even though I never get the chance with two cute little boys running around, haha!

Hope you are having a good day 🙂 It’s a stormy one here!

  22. Hey Allie,

I totally agree with you, we can start forgetting about leisure clothes and going for a more stylish option like this Hill House trend you’re proposing.

Can’t stop thinking of a summer in Provence or somewhere similar picking fruits or plants, of course an idealization, but we can also adapt these trends to the city.

You selected a lot of interesting pieces! Hope you can catch one of these dresses soon 🙂

  27. I’ve been waiting for my whole life for these kinds of dresses. They are all feminine, whimsical romantic, and a tad frivolous, and even though they would probably overshadow me I’d still love to have one.

Thanks for sharing all these beautiful dresses and inspo!

  28. I love the term, “nap dress” to describe smocked dresses. I love these dresses because they remind me of my childhood. I’m more of a fan of midi nap dresses over maxi ones. You have featured some really lovely styles here, Allie! Hope you are well and having a great weekend!
