Fashion Week is quickly approaching and it seems it is more or less back to where it was in 2019. This was the last time I was in Paris and I found that trends I saw there arrived on American shores about 12-18 months later. In general I feel like Europe is ahead of the trends to a degree, I guess because in the States there are two major cities that are super fashion forward: New York and Los Angles. Not that other cities are not vibrant and fashionable but I find that trends often start abroad, then pop up in New York and LA and then move on to the wider U.S.
In this photo, Chloe Harrouche is wearing a longer necklace wrapped around her neck several times to achieve the effect of a choker. I love how she layered it over a sweater. Proving this is a trend that can be worn in the cooler months as well as when it is super warm out in the summer time.
In decades past they were often thought of as stuffy or old fashioned, even passe but this is no longer the case.
Of course with the pandemic many trends where put on hold and are just now reaching the fore front here in the States. And the pearl necklace is certainly one of them, and in particular the choker pearl necklace. I was watching a video by the YouTuber Cynical Duchess the other day and in the video she was traveling in Amsterdam and interviewing people there about what they were wearing, and I noticed that many of the people she spoke with were wearing pearl chokers. I have to say I do not see this often here in the U.S. even in New York (at least not yet) with the exception perhaps of Fashion Week, when of course the more fashion forward folk are out and about. I adore how Caroline Daur wore this simple pearl choker for a more casual fashion forward look, and then how Alexa Chung wore a similar necklace in a much more dressed up look.
In the video the people interviewed in Amsterdam were not attending Fashion Week, they were just going about their day. These are looks they chose to wear to go shopping, to go out to lunch or just run errands. Gosh those European cities are just so inspiring.
Personally I think this is a super fun trend and I love the old school Chanel vibe it evokes. And even men are jumping on this trend as evidenced here by Chau Bui‘s main squeeze. Wow, he has as much fashion sense as she does! Oh la la!
I do not own any pearl or pearl inspired necklaces so I am going to have to rectify that situation ASAP. What say you? Do you like this trend? Do you have any pearl necklaces? If not would you buy one? And how would you style it?
