Trends Straight From The Streets of Paris

I will be chatting today about the trends I witnessed on the streets of Paris this past fall. I always feel Parisian style is a bit more individualistic then American style. I find in the states that people are much more driven by specific trends and brands, with everyone wearing similar looks and styles from the same fashion houses; almost a uniform if you will; while in Paris it is more about expressing your individual style. That said Parisians do indeed follow trends much like their counterparts across the pond. I mean no one is immune to FOMO. My first weekend in Paris I spent with family and one of those days I spent with my fourteen year old niece. We attended a presentation and we also shopped a bit and she was on a mission to find a baker boy hat.

I always feel Parisian style is a bit more individualistic then American style.

Apparently this is trending big time in Paris and in particular with young people. My niece did find her hat and was over joyed. The rest of the week I spent attending shows and shooting street style and I did spot more of these hats then I did in New York. Crop tops however, are a big trend across the globe as seen here on two off duty models. Pair one with an over-sized utilitarian style jacket and you are good to go.

Stripes and berets are a stereotypical fashion go to when trying to look French, and although berets may not be trending stripes were seen all over the city. Here they are mixed with camaflouge for a more sporty look. I snapped this outside the Telfar show and if you  want to don stripes you would be in good company as this super styling fashionista Airik Prince is an actual stylist.

People tend to dress more over the top during Fashion Week on both sides of the pond. But, in Paris it is done with more of a sense of true creativity and less about getting attention. Not that you won’t find this element as well, but it seems more understated while simultaneously being unique and eye catching.

Paris it is more about expressing your individual style. That said Parisians do indeed follow trends

From vintage hats to coats and even head to toe vintage inspired looks, the retro trend was quite popular

One of the ways individuality was expressed while also being a definite trend, was the retro trend and in particular the mid-century retro trend. I saw this quite a bit in Paris, I did not see this much at all in New York. From vintage hats, to coats, and even head to toe vintage inspired looks, the retro trend was quite popular. It may be due to Europeans being a bit more woke, when it comes to the impact that fast fashion has on the environment.

[bigletter]These two young ladies created quite the frenzy with the photogs. Miki and I (from Miki Ala Mode) traveled with them from the Mannish Aurora presentation to the Palais de Tokyo, and as we approached the main square a gaggle of street photogs rushed towards us cameras snapping at breakneck pace. Whoah, feeling like a Kardashian there for a moment. Miki and I looked at each other and were like, “Um, they are interested in them, not us” And with style like this it is not surprising. Here they are blending two trends together seamlessly: the retro trend, and the neon trend. Plus, they carried the neon trend over to their makeup. Parisians like to keep their makeup minimal; here it is minimal but also striking and attention getting. A great way to make a statement for sure.[/bigletter]

  7. I can see why that gaggle of street photographers went wild over those two young women in that last photo! The complementary contrast of the beautiful pink and blue outfits combined with the fabulous winged neon eyeshadows is true art. I also really love the outfit with the vintage hat and the vintage coat with the embroidered yoke in the left hand photo immediately above the pink and blue OOTDs.

  15. What a fun trip to take and I think it would be awesome to be rushed by photographers! I’d hide my face (which is all I want to do when a camera is pointed at it anyway) and turn away just like it was commonplace for me and I was sick of it 😛 I love seeing trends from different parts of the world. I think I’m more into Italian style but it’s great to keep an eye on everything. I have a sister-in-law who travels a lot for work and she’s always taking pictures of fashion where she is and sending it to me. It’s probably time to do a post based on one of those photos…..

  16. I totally agree that Parisian style is more individualistic as well. You definitely people doing their own thing. I feel like they wear more color as well.

  17. I totally agree- Parisian style is more tailored to the individual, or allows the individual more self expression, than American style. And it’s awesome + inspiring!

  21. I actually love the fact that Paris style leans more towards individual creativity instead of following trends. Beautofully written post, Allie!

  25. Parisian style really does seem more personal than American style. I am so impressed with how they even make a vintage look their own (like with the neon). Beautiful!

  26. It looks like the French definitely take fashion seriously. But in a fun way. ?–Wow, with eyeliner like that you’re just asking for attention!
I just heard that a lot of the fast fashion uses clothes made from a polyester/cotton blend that’s actually much harder to repurpose. The retro look’s more woke for sure!

  27. How can you not just die at the beauty of neon eyeliner. I must say I don’t know if I can pull it off but I must try! Those women look fabulous.

  30. I love seeing how people really put their own twist on outfits for fashion weeks and you’re right, these attendees are so stylish! I think that the vintage touch is nice too – I’m definitely trying to buy second hand more often!

Hope that your week has been good and you have a nice weekend ahead of you! There’s a lot of smoke again around here but we are safe from the bushfires.

  33. It must be fascinating to both see and capture these new and emerging trends first hand on the streets in between shows 🙂 The neon eyeliner isn’t something I’ll be trying anytime soon, but I lOVE to see others wear the bold style!

  39. I love to see that people is aware of circular fashion, vintage options are the best and definitely the coolest option when you want something different and go beyond the fast fashion stores.

I also love to see hats and vibrant colors are here to stay! My aim is to risk and go beyond with color this upcoming season!

  40. Great photos and a peek into Parisian trends now. I love the neon highlighter on those ladies – striking and gorgeous! I’d definitely get retro pieces since it’s my style as well. Even now I gravitate towards midi dresses and retro cuts so I’d fit in!
