By Collar necklaces have always been a statement maker, not for meek or timid to be sure. And much like apparel, there are distinct trends in jewelry. A number of years ago it was all about over-sized, geometric, can’t be missed necklaces. This gave way to a trend that was the polar opposite: layers of delicate gold chain necklaces circa Carrie Bradshaw of early 2000s.
The last few seasons this trend has given way to the larger than life, in your face, chunky gold necklace—the bigger the better. And this bigger than better trend is still going strong and it is not exclusive to what is hanging from your neck. Chandelier earrings were also a hot commodity. Like this stand-alone earring from Valentino.
But, as most trends go in the fickle world of fashion—they evolve.
Chandelier earrings were BIG the last few seasons (pun intended). And bigger and bolder accessories continue to take center stage. Some well clod fashionistas even mixed it up: wearing different or mis-matched over-sized earrings, while others wore only a single chandelier earring. Others chose to wear more than one chunky chain necklace, layering them like they did their daintier cousins a few seasons back.
And Miki here of Miki a la Mode is sporting three trends in one: the chunky gold necklace, layering gold necklaces, and a statement chandelier earring. Oh la la she has style. As does the much sought after influencer Carolina Daur. But we all know that!
And the collar necklace could just be that mythical beast we fashion influencers love to chase
Could the collar necklace be the next go to trend in necklaces? I saw a few of these this past September, albite Fashion Week was a far cry from its usual pomp and circumstance. Would you wear a collar necklace? Or chandelier earrings? Do you follow trends or are you are trend setter? I am always on the look out for the next must have item that no one knows they want yet. And the collar necklace could just be that mythical beast we fashion influencers love to chase.

January 14, 2021I would definitely wear a statement/chandelier earring over a collar necklace as my neck is quite sensitive and I never know when i’ll react to the metal i’m wearing. Having said that, I really like the idea of wearing a collar necklace over a turtle neck top/jumper/dress. Maybe that’s a trend i need to tap into in June when the weather gets very cold here.

January 14, 2021We wore ‘chokers’ which were a bit tighter at the neck waaaaay back in the day…1970s. I loved them. Have a velvet one with a cameo drop. Love these sleek gold collars and the chunky gold chain collar. Those would both work so much better for me than long and dangly. Thank you for sharing this trend with this old grandma. Now off to find some collars!!

I love to see how creativity can be applied to jewels and other accessories, these are not the typical jewels you can find at Zara or at H&M. You can see many interesting details such as the concept behind the piece (I loved the little hand in one of the models).
I think jewels are like the cherry on top to an outfit, and you can add a little bit of drama, tell a story or make an statement by selecting the right piece!

January 14, 2021I think we will embrace statement necklaces more over statement earrings at the moment! I find long dangly earrings are my favourite but they don’t work well with masks, haha! 🙂 We have to wear masks here at the moment indoors as there were 2 cases outside hotel quarantine and we don’t want that outbreak to spread.
